  Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement…
“We’ve had some great games with K-State the last couple of years. This was just like the last one up at their place, difference is we ended up on the losing end. I thought we rebounded well, they’re the top rebounding team in the conference. They had 14 offensive rebounds, we just didn’t make enough, so the effort was there, we just didn’t get enough points on the second-chance points. Eighteen turnovers is by far too many and that really hurt us. The big thing is that we got leads, got chances to extend and we didn’t take advantage of that. Credit to K-State for making big plays. I think Angel Rodriguez … finished today with 15 [points], six [assists] and four steals, and I thought really played a good game on the road for them and did a tremendous job.”

On the last play…
“Pierre [Jackson] all year long has created at the end, and he found Miller and Miller is usually pretty efficient from down there so it was a good pass, good play. Normally you like your chances with the ball right there at the end of the game for the last shot.”

On three-point shooting…
“Definitely their defense was good, but we had some good looks too. Brady was the only one that was able to get anything going.”

On the overall team effort…
“Once we got that run we should have extended the lead. Both halves we started out well and then we missed opportunities to push the game further open.”

Sophomore Guard Brady Heslip

On K-State’s defense…
“They’re a really good defensive team. They get up in the passing lanes and pressure and deny passes a lot. I think at times it just threw us off on offense, and they were able to get some steals and stuff like that.”

On not extending the lead further…
“I think it was on us. That’s what we talked about, we need to be able to build a lead and sustain it. In the first half, we were up eight at one point and they came back. In the second half, we went up to start the half and then they hit some big shots so credit to those players. They’re a really good team.”

Senior Forward Quincy Acy

On the final two minutes of the game…
“It was very frustrating. We just didn’t convert.”

On not being able to extend the lead further…
“That’s been something we needed to work on off-season was getting big leads and then we let teams back in. We still have to get better at that.”

 Head Coach Frank Martin

On toughness of his teams…
“These guys come in and they don’t let things get them down. Practices are great. Someone said to be the other day, ‘You don’t seem as animated on the sideline.’ What should I be animated about? These guys are trying their hearts out. Just because the ball doesn’t go in the basket sometimes doesn’t make us a bad team. These guys are trying to do what we ask them to do, and when you’re disciplined and take care of your responsibilities, what is there to stomp around about? They come to practice every day, they take it seriously, and they’ve been great.”

On the play of his players defensively…
“I thought we did a great job on Pierre [Jackson], as well as our bigs, with our ability to guard their ball screens, which killed us the first time we played them. For us to handle that a lot better was a huge plus for us.”

On the play of Jordan Henriquez…
“He’s been awesome. He’s having fun again. He protected the rim on defense, which is what we need him to do all the time, and then he made big-time plays on offense. Not just that three-point play on the lob that Angel makes, but then that offensive rebound that gets us that extra possession and allows us to shorten the clock even more. If he keeps playing that way, he’s going to find himself making a tremendous, positive impact on our team coming down the stretch here.”

Junior Forward Jordan Henriquez

On best part about the win over Baylor…
“I’m just trying to do everything I can to help my team win. From the jump ball, it was all about intensity and matching their intensity. Whenever they made their run, we stayed the course. That’s what Coach always preaches to us about, staying the course. When a team punches us, we have to punch them back, and that’s what we did today.”

On the last defensive stand…
“It’s all about that last effort, the 50-50 ball. Those are the kind of plays you have to make to win the game. In that possession, that’s the play we came up with.”

On bouncing back after struggling previous few games…
“Yeah, in a way, but it’s always about coming out, helping my team, and doing what I need to do best. One thing I know is that I need to be more consistent. That starts in practice and carries over into the game.”

Freshman Guard Angel Rodriguez

On the need to bounce back after the loss to Kansas…
“I needed to bounce back after that game. I really came focused and ready to play today other than the first couple minutes, when I turned the ball over twice and Pierre Jackson drove right by me.”

On guarding Pierre Jackson…
“He’s really fast. Coach Fig [Matt Figger] told me that today, more than anything, he needed me to play good defense on him, so that’s what I tried to do today. I guess it worked out.”

On being able to get road victory against Baylor…
“It always feels good win. Especially when we’ve lost a couple games and lost them at home. Coming into their building and winning this game after all the losses we’ve had feels great.”
