MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Jeremiah Massey scored 24 points and Kansas State
withstood a late run to beat Baylor 80-69 on Wednesday night.
Kansas State (14-10, 4-9 Big 12) used a 14-1 run to open the second half and
build a 50-32 lead, but Baylor slowly crept back. Aaron Bruce's deep jump shot
with 6:01 to go got the Bears (9-15, 1-12) within 59-56.
The Wildcats, who squandered a 16-point second-half lead in a 69-68 loss to
Oklahoma on Saturday, found an answer this time. After Patrick Fields got
Baylor within 60-58, Clent Stewart knocked down his only 3-point attempt with
4:42 left and Kansas State went 13-for-14 from the free-throw line the rest of
the way.
Cartier Martin added 15 points for Kansas State, which snapped a six-game
losing streak. Lance Harris added 14 points and Fred Peete 10.
Fields finished with 22 points to lead Baylor, which has lost 10 straight.
Bruce added 20 points and five assists and Tim Bush had 18 points.
The Wildcats outrebounded the Bears 35-19 and shot 56 percent from the
field, taking advantage of 16 Baylor turnovers.
Massey scored the Wildcats' first nine points helped them to an early 16-8
lead. But Bruce scored on a driving layup with 10 seconds left in the half, and
Bush stole the inbounds pass and laid it in with two seconds remaining to get
within 36-31 at the break.
