BAYLOR 58, 21/17 TEXAS A&M 51
FEB. 26, 2011 • ATTENDANCE: 9,338

  Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement...
"Well you have a happy coach. Winning is fun in the Big 12 because every game is just a battle and a war. It wasn't pretty from both teams, but I tell you what was pretty is the effort that both teams and energy that both teams played with. Why you don't make shots is because there is great defense and why you don't make great shots or turn the ball over is because you get tired because of the great defense. I thought you really had two teams that competed. Coach Turgeon always does a great job with his team. They execute well and I was very proud of how we guarded and how we were able to rebound."

On if this was his team's best defensive effort...
"No. We played defensive well numerous games, but the games that we lose we don't play as well."

On the impact of J'mison Morgan...
"I think Bobo has been playing his best basketball at the end of the season. The last few games he has been super and really given us a lift and done a tremendous job. It is good to see his hard work paying off. He really set the tone in the beginning of the game."

  Senior Guard LaceDarius Dunn

On his important three-point shots in the second half...
"They were big shots, but I credit my team. (I credit) A.J. Walton for being the point guard that he is. He found me in wide open situations. I knew I had to come through at some point."

On if the team played with a sense of urgency...
"No doubt. I think we came out with a chip on our shoulder knowing that, first of all, we had to protect home court and I think we did that and the second is (we) came out with a high intensity. Just playing our game and doing the things we do well. Mostly importantly on the defensive end, I think we guarded great tonight. We have to keep that up."

  Junior Forward Quincy Acy

On the team's interior defense...
"Coach Drew has really been stressing that in order for us to win, it is going to be defense and rebounding. We are buying into that. We are really focusing on that in practice, pushing each other in the drills and going hard. It is just carrying over to the game. These last couple of games, we have to leave it all out on the court."

On the team's defensive effort as a whole...
"The intensity was high. Everybody was just laying it out on the line. I still think we can be even better. Once we all buy into Coach Drew's scheme, we are going to be pretty good."

  Head Coach Mark Turgeon

Opening statement...
"I thought Baylor was great again. Baylor really plays well against Texas A&M and they did this year in both games. Their zone was fantastic. It felt like they had six guys out there, and they were everywhere. Our zone attack wasn't very good. It was good early and it wasn't very good the rest of the way. I didn't think we played very smart against the zone. It's hard to put pressure on a team when you can't score. I was surprised we shot 35 percent to be honest with you; it didn't feel like it. We didn't get to the free throw line and when we did we didn't make free throws. (LaceDarius) Dunn made a big shot, which he's been doing his whole career. Our kids fought hard. We really defended and tried hard defensively. We just were so bad offensively, we couldn't overcome it."

On Baylor playing with their backs against the wall...
"Baylor plays well against us all the time, so give them credit. I thought they were really dialed in. Defensively they were just tremendous. It's not the normal zone where they just kind of stand around, they were flying around and did a great job. We finally figured it out for a little bit but our defense got us back in the game. We got a couple of steals which led to layups. (Baylor) did a great job of closing out so you've got to give them a lot of credit, they were good tonight."

On not finishing around the rim...
"To win five in a row, we've been making those kinds of plays and doing the things we need to do. It just didn't seem like we were dialed in tonight the right way. But give (Baylor) a lot of credit when you don't score around the rim and you have a lot of opportunities around the rim. It gets frustrating and when you can't make free throws it gets frustrating. It wasn't a pretty game but a very physical game which went in (Baylor's) favor today."

  Sophomore Forward Khris Middleton

 On Baylor's zone defense...
"(Baylor) just made everything for us a little difficult. We couldn't find the open looks or get the ball into the gaps like we wanted to."

On Baylor giving Texas A&M trouble...
"I don't think it's so much that they give us trouble, it just makes it a little more difficult for us when we don't play as well as we should throughout the games."

  Junior Forward David Loubeau

On not capitalizing on close shots...
"We had some good looks; they just made it tough on us sometimes. For threes and close-up shots, they just made it difficult for us."

On Baylor's interior defense...
"The Baylor bigs have a good presence down low. We wanted to capitalize on the easy baskets so that will be another thing we will need to work on in practice."
