#7/8 TEXAS 60, BAYLOR 54
MARCH 5, 2011 • ATTENDANCE: 10,627

  Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement:
"First, I want to thank Baylor Nation, Waco and Central Texas for an outstanding GameDay atmosphere. I thought the day was super as far as portraying the city and Central Texas. As far as the game goes, I apologize; our team apologizes. We have not been beaten up that bad on the boards in a long time. I am very disappointed in our efforts on the boards. We guarded, we did enough to win as far as the other parts go. But, (with) the rebounding, I know our team was very disappointed in the performance, and we hope we can do better in the conference tournament."

On Baylor's performance on the boards:
"A, you always watch the film because that never lies, but B, I know 31-6, we could not have missed that many block outs. We have not been physically dominated like that since the first couple of years here."

On LaceDarius Dunn breaking the Big 12 scoring record:
"We are very pleased and happy for an award like that, an honor like that. (Andre) Emmett was class on sending his mom to come here. That is what sports is all about. At the same time, it was a storybook day, not a storybook ending."

On LaceDarius Dunn's performance at Baylor:
"That is why that record is so impressive because you look at all of the great players in the Big 12, and we've had a ton of them. To be able to break that record is an outstanding accomplishment."

On Baylor's matchup with Oklahoma:
"Anyone is the Big 12 you match up with is going to be tough. That is why it is one of the best leagues, if not the best league, in the country. The good thing is with Oklahoma, we are familiar with them. We played them twice, so the guys know what to expect. We are excited to begin part three of our year."

  Senior Guard LaceDarius Dunn

On setting the Big 12 scoring record and Baylor's performance...
"The record was sweet; a great achievement. I am thankful for it, but it was a tough loss. I did not come out and match the intensity of (Tristan) Thompson. We could not stop him. Hats off to him, he is an incredible player. Other than that, we just did not come out and compete tonight."

On Johnson's defensive effort...
"I think he was just a little more active; just active everywhere. Once I caught the ball they had somebody on the help side, which made it real hard for me to drive and made me want to take contested shots. I think he did a great job switching that up; getting (Anthony) Jones apart from me and switching over to Jones until a stronger guy came. I think he did a great job."

On the letter from Andre Emmett...
"I thought that was real special. That really brought tears to my eyes. It just shows you what kind of heart he has, what kind of guy he is. Not being able to be here and witness it, but sending a letter and also getting (his mom) to read it to me. It was a very special letter, and I will always make sure I look at that and remind myself of the things that he said and the advice that he gave me. I am thankful for that, and I am looking forward to meeting him."

  Freshman Forward Perry Jones III

On Texas' rebounding:
"They were playing tough on offense; just rebounding. They came ready to play like they always do and that is why they are one of the top 10 in the nation. They played real hard and played with toughness."

On what the players learned from tonight's game:
"If we do not play tougher than the other team, we do not win. It is just that. They out rebounded us by a lot and they got a lot of second-chance points. If we do not play tough, we are not going anywhere."

  Head Coach Rick Barnes

On coming back to win after a tough first half...
"We talked about really moving the ball and playing from the inside out. In the first half, we really got out of rhythm because we were over-passing the ball trying to move it a lot. We fought through it though, and I really felt like if we could play defense like we did in the first half, that we would start making enough shots to win the game. We didn't end the half very well and missed a bunch of free throws when we needed them, but on the other end we were able to get some key guys in foul trouble. We just needed to keep doing that."

On the outcome of the game...
"It was a great win for us, it really was, especially on a night when there is a lot of excitement in the building. LaceDarius Dunn has had a terrific career. He's a difficult player to defend. We told our guys that they had to make him work for everything he could get, but we also couldn't let other guys come in and hurt us. Again, it was a great win. We were just terrific on the boards tonight. "

On the mental toughness of his team...
"I thought our guys had poise throughout, even when we struggled. When Baylor had the momentum going their way, I thought our guys stayed with it. They did what they needed to do and got on the glass and paid attention to the details. Again, guys (were) truly playing the roles they need to play. This is the kind of game you're going to be in from here on out, a possession game. Baylor is a very talented team and they got themselves in some foul trouble, but this is what it is going to be like for the rest of the year, possession games."

  Sophomore Guard Jordan Hamilton

On the importance of the win...
"The last couple of games, my shot has just been dead, and I just knew that I didn't want to lose here. Especially for our seniors tonight, this is such a big rivalry. I just told myself that I had to go out there and make something happen."

On his defense...
"One thing Coach (Barnes) has been talking to us about is help-side defense. That's what I did, even up to the last couple of plays of the game. I knew they were going to Lacedarius (Dunn) and I knew he was going to try to make something happen so if I came down on him and tried to get a stop, it would be effective, so that's what I did."

  Senior Forward Gary Johnson

On the importance of the win...
"It was big. A lot of people started to get the feeling of déjà vu all over again and we were not going to let that happen. We will continue to let people think that, but we're all here as a team and we're going to continue to play."

On guarding LaceDarius Dunn...
"He lit us up at our house and I talked to the coaches about it and I knew we couldn't let that happen again. I just wanted to be a presence on the defensive end and I feel like I did so tonight."
