12/12 BAYLOR 81, ABILENE CHRISTIAN 54
FERRELL CENTER • WACO, TEXAS
NOV. 1, 2011 • ATTENDANCE: 3,082

Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement…
“First of all, I thought for so many guys playing for the first time in a Baylor uniform, there were a lot of positives to build off of, and obviously a lot of things to improve on. Miller, Jackson, Bello, and Brady (Heslip) and then Cory Jefferson for the first time in two years, that is a lot of guys who haven’t played. You will come out and be a little nervous, a little excited and that is why you play these games. The good thing is now that we can build off of some of it and show people some areas we have to get better at.”

On Baylor’s team chemistry at this point of the season…
“Well that is going to take some time. It is a good problem to have, but at the same time it does take time.”

On the importance of depth…
“We played eight guys for double-digit minutes tonight, and a ninth was close. Normally when you play seven guys, what you give up is the defensive end. When you play nine, players seem to always find energy on the offensive end, but on the defensive end that is a good thing.”

Senior F Quincy Acy

On the team playing better in the second half…
“We got the first-game jitters out of the way. The freshmen and the new guys came in and adjusted really well and we went into the half feeling like we knew how they were playing and we got used to it and came out and executed the way we know we can.”

On the team’s defensive effort in the second half…
“They came out a lot more aggressive than we did. We had a talk and we got it together and came back out in the second half with our heads on.”

Junior G Pierre Jackson

On his defensive effort…
“Well coach is always on to me because I will pick up full court. It starts with me, so I got to get after it on defense and hopefully the rest of my team will tag along.”

On playing his first game at Baylor…
“It was great. I was real nervous, but that got out of the way and came out and got it together.”

Sophomore F Perry Jones III

On the difference coming out for his sophomore year…
“I feel more poised this year. I am not rushing things as much as I did last year. I am just better at finding team mates whenever I need to.”

On Quincy Miller’s play…
“I think that he was more nervous just because of his injury. He hasn’t played in over a year and I know he had some jitters because it is his first game, but I am pretty sure it is out of the way now.”
