BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Scott Drew
Opening statement ...
"As far as exhibition games, I wanted to find as good of a team as possible that wasn't Division I. We want to play the best we can to get ready for the season and this was great. It was game-like. It gave us a chance to play new guys under tough conditions versus being up 40 points. We will have a lot of teaching points and a lot of areas to work on. I know the good thing is we'll get better as the season goes on. There were some good things. Our defensive field goal percentage was good. Other than that everything else needs work."
On committing less turnovers...
"You've got a sophomore point guard (A.J. Walton) and a freshman point guard (Stargell Love) backing him up, and Fred Ellis starting at the 2 when he has been starting at the four most of his career. I think we'll definitely get better in that department. We also got a little spoiled with the veteran point guard play we've had the last four years."
Sophomore Point Guard A.J. Walton
On being the starting point guard...
"It was different. First game, team leader, floor general, it was just a good experience. They are a good team. They pressured us the whole game. We kind of controlled it and got the victory in the end."
Junior Center J'mison Morgan
On getting used to the new system...
"I think I was pretty much used to A.J. (Walton) because he is my roommate, so there is a bond there. I am trying to get used to the system because this is a lot different from where I was at."
MIDWESTERN STATE POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Grant McCasland
"It was an honor to be back at the Ferrell Center. I'm thankful for the opportunity that Coach (Scott) Drew gave our basketball team and our university to come and play. It was very gracious and kind to let us come back and this place means a lot to me. I felt like our team played hard and that's going to be our goal every game we play. We gave ourselves a chance to win and I was proud of the way we competed."
On competing with Baylor...
"We're not a fun matchup for anyone that has a lot of size because our guys play hard. We may not be tall but we play physical. They are a little bit short-handed right now and will probably be 20 points stronger here soon enough. I felt like we had a chance because I like our guards. We were a little awestruck early at the length they had but I knew we would come here and compete and give ourselves a chance to win the game."
