BAYLOR (1-0) 86, NORFOLK STATE (0-1) 58
NOV. 13, 2009

Head Coach Scott Drew

On the game…
"I am very pleased with how we handled the ball with 18 assists and 12 turnovers, with so many new guys wearing Baylor jerseys for the first time. Holding (Norfolk State) to 33 percent defensive shooting is very good. We out-rebounded, but I would like to be a little bit more efficient with them. I was very pleased with the start and I think you can see, especially those first couple of games of the year, why it is important to have veterans.”

On LaceDarius Dunn scoring 32-points…
“Lace has a lot of nights like this in practice. Lace is a great shooter and a great scorer. (He) was very efficient. (With) one assist to only one turnover handling the ball tonight, he did a very good job.”

On the performance of A.J. Walton…
“I thought A.J. did a tremendous job. Out of the freshman obviously he played the most but he showed tremendous confidence out there with five assists and three turnovers with three steals. Those are great numbers for a freshman. I think he showed his nerves on the free-throw line because he is a better shooter.”

Freshman Guard A.J. Walton

On his first career start…
"I felt good about (the start). I didn’t have a choice but to come in and play hard. (My team) backed me up from the beginning of the game and in practice (Tweety Carter) has just been pushing me and telling me to relax and just play.”

Junior Forward Ekpe Udoh

On the first game of the season…
"It was fun. Coming out I was nervous but my teammates got on me and told me just to play. After the first couple of minutes I just came after it.”

Junior Guard LaceDarius Dunn

On scoring 32-points in the season-opener…
"I knew I had to come out right away and be ready to play. I knew I had to come out and be selective. I shot the ball well and (A.J. Walton) found me and gave me the ball and it was my responsibility to make the shot.”

Norfolk State Head Coach Anthony Evans

On LaceDarius Dunn’s shooting...
"He improved on his mid-range game. Last year we watched some film, all he was doing was shooting from long range. This year he did a good job of staying under control from mid-range one, two dribble and pull-up. He stays under control and because he shoots the ball so well you have to run out on him. Again, he is staying under control this year, hitting the mid-range and attacking the basket.”

On pressuring Baylor’s point guards...
"That is kind of our game. We were going to do it anyway even if (Tweety) Carter starts, because we knew they had an advantage inside. So we wanted to try to slow them down and take some time off the clock, but he (A.J. Walton) did a great job.”

On Baylor forward Ekpe Udoh...
“He is a good player. We played Michigan last year and watched some film from the year before when he played. He is a really good defender and he shot the jump hook pretty well as well.”

On Baylor inside-outside offense...
"They are athletic, especially their bigs. We get around the basket and normally it is a layup for us, but they haveS somebody coming off the weak side blocking the shot. They are a good team, very athletic and disciplined. I am sure when they get Carter back they are going to be a really tough team to beat.”
