BAYLOR (3-0) 61, SOUTHERN (0-1) 45
NOV. 16, 2009

Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement...
"For all of those people that wanted to see the Baylor Bears play defense, we were able to do that tonight, so that was the good thing. We were able to do that tonight and hold them to 28 percent and held them to 45 points. Obviously the offense came to a halt in the second half. Great experience to prepare us for when we go to the Old Spice Classic and now we know what it will be like playing in that third game in four days. At the beginning of the week we wanted to be 3-0, didn’t want anyone to be injured and wanted a chance to find some areas to work on and see what we need to do from here and all of those things were accomplished, so that’s the good thing. Now we can spend Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and get better.”

On A.J. Walton’s performance…
"Defensively, AJ is very good, very active and he has played a lot of minutes in three games now. This is great experience for him and he has done a great job being put in that position and for a freshman he’s done well.”

On what things they were able to see that need improvement…
"Obviously offensively we were very stagnant at times and we’ll have to get better there. We were able to find out rotation wise who needs to be subbed out when and I think we were able to see what combinations work better and which don’t work as well. I think those were the big things that we wanted to see.”

Junior Guard LaceDarius Dunn

On having four assists tonight…
"I knew that was going to be your first question, I knew that. I just came out and just played. Coach has been preaching to me ever since last year about assists and I’ve been hearing it so much I’m tired of hearing it. So I just came out and tried to penetrate and get my teammates involved and it turned out well with four assists and zero turnovers so that’s awesome for me.”

On playing three games in four days…
"I’m glad we got Hartford out of the way last night. It’s tough, you’ve got to take care of your body. Playing three games in four days, it’s not that easy to just come out and get wins like that. We came out and we fought and we’ve got some people banged up, me being number one, but I’ve just got to take care of my body and get ready for the next game.”

Freshman Guard A.J. Walton

On playing strong defensively…
"Coach has been telling me it starts with you on the defensive end. With Tweety sitting out I know that I have to be the leader. I don’t score much but I just try to get my team involved and do what I can. So defense, I have to specialize in that and I know that’s what I’ve got to do.”

On coming off of a big game last night…
"Well last night they were fine, big win, I was real happy. But coming out into the game today, we came out a little lazy. I came out a little lazy but like Lace said, we just have to rehab our bodies and get ready for Orlando and the Old Spice Classic.”

Southern Head Coach Rob Spivery

On the game…
"This is our first game and the concerns that I had coming into the game was obvious when you look at the two teams and the difference in size. My concern was our ability to rebound the basketball. They had some second-chance points tonight and if we could have rebounded better, the score could have been even better in terms of a more competitive game for us.”

On LaceDarius Dunn…
“Anybody that shoots the ball like he does is always a tough cover and you have to give him a lot of attention with your defense.”
