Head Coach Scott Drew
"The most important thing is that we got the win and the second most important thing is that the defense was very good. Holding [Southern] to 25.9 percent field goal percent defense is outstanding, and that was very good. As far as the second half offensively, we have a big week coming up with a lot of games so we went with some lineups that we normally wouldn't go to in order to try and rest some guys and give some other guys some minutes. I think that stifled our offense a little bit. The great thing is that we did a great job defensively."
On Quincy Acy
"Robert [Griffin] set a record this year, Quincy [Acy] has set a record this year and I think the big thing is if you look at Quincy's first game in the exhibition, he was 2 for 9. He has settled down and takes high percentage shots and is doing a great job not turning [the ball] over. If he is out of position, he is passing it well, and obviously he knows how to finish."
"Jacksonville is picked to win their conference and their record proves it. They lost to Florida State by two and lost to Georgetown by nine. It will be a great test for us and that will get us ready for what we need to do in Anaheim. This is a big week for us and for fans that want to see a good team and a good game. They need to come out on Monday night because we are going to need their help."
On the defensive effort
"We were doing a better job helping and stunting [on defense]. We were doing a better job keeping our man in front of us because at the end of the day that is the most important thing. When you are getting beat off of the bounce you a forcing a rotation in which you are breaking down your defense."
Guard Henry Dugat
On Quincy Acy
"When he first came here, we already knew what he could do. We knew that we had another person besides K-Rog [Kevin Rogers] down low that when we give him the ball, he can catch it and finish it. He has been showing us what he can do and he has been making it look easy and helping us out a lot."
On the defensive effort
"I think that was good for us to see that when the offense is not going we can still score on defense. We can get opportunities from our defense and I think we showed that out there. We got in the passing lanes and we trusted each other. I think that was a big thing for us with the big tests that we have this week."
Forward Quincy Acy
On starting his career 18-for-18 from the field
"I think it is a big accomplishment and I think that means that I came in here and did my job helping the team win."
On playing with Baylor's backcourt
"It is great to play with good guards. I was missing that in high school. I had one, but they trapped him a lot. It is nice to have the luxury of having good guards."
Southern Head Coach Rob Spivery
"Let me just start off by saying how disappointed I am in the way we competed today. This was just our second basketball game, but I expected us to come in and compete a lot harder than what we did. I thought in the first half we gave Baylor too many opportunities by turning the ball over to much. Just too many turnovers and we did not compete the way we needed to really make a game of it or show improvement on our part."
On the difficulty of guarding Baylor:
"I think they have good guard play. I think the point guard (Curtis Jerrells) can break down the defense and create for himself or his teammates. They can spread you out and even the bigger guys can shoot the ball, score the ball. It makes it tough...and of course they have the size and strength advantage on us...They have guys who can make the outside shot, and we knew coming in they had a balanced offensive team."
