Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew
"We will start with the positives. Most importantly we had a close game and were able to show poise and get a win. Free throws are coming. We did a great job defensively and forced 21 turnovers, which is very good. We had more offensive rebounds than them to the very end. We gave up 52 percent field goal percentage and that is the biggest concern. We got off to a great a start against the toughest team. We knew it was going to be tough and our players knew we had to play well. "
On the game:
"As a coach you hate it because you do not want to go through those games because you have a lot to lose and not much to gain. But at the same these are what are games are going to be like in Anaheim, so if we didn't have a game like this beforehand, then you are going to get bit out there. I think this was just what we needed now that we got the win."
"Jacksonville is a team I would be surprised if they are not in the postseason. I would look for them to be in the NCAA tournament. They have good senior leadership and they play very well and they are well coached. I expect a lot from them the rest of the year."
"[I am] very excited about it on the point that it is a great opportunity for us to play not only against quality competition, but also do it on a national stage. It is a great opportunity for us and I am excited to get out there. If we can make it like the Paradise Jam it is going to be a great trip."
On LaceDarius Dunn:
"He hit one or two tough shots, the good thing is our teammates did a great job finding him early and that got him a great opportunity to get off to a good start. Lace has a unique ability to come into a game and it is on right away. I think Lace prefers to come in cold because he really performs well that way."
Baylor Guard Curtis Jerrells
On the game
"[It was] very good, coach told us they were going to be pretty good team. We watched a little bit of them and saw that they could play. You have a lot of guys that are the same size and it creates a lot of mismatches. They did a lot of pick and rolls on us and they did a good job at exploiting some of our weaknesses."
"Coach said he scheduled it to give us a good test. They came in and played their hearts out but we stepped up to the challenge."
On the second half
"We made the shots. In the beginning we did an okay job at making shots, but those guys were hitting it and keeping the game close. In the second half we did a great job at making the shots. We didn't defend as well as I think we should have."
Baylor Guard LaceDarius Dunn
On the game
"As the game went on I got into my good groove. With the guards we have, the great guards, they break their guy down and they are prepared to make sacrifices."
On preparing for Anaheim
"I think Jacksonville really prepared us for it. They were a great team and came in and gave us a great fight."
Jacksonville Head Coach Cliff Warren
"I am disappointed in the loss, but I am very proud of our effort tonight. Our players listened to the scouting report, they listened in practice and they listened to everything I asked them to do. I as a coach have to go back and correct some things and make sure I am doing everything I can do to help our players. But again I am disappointed, our players are disappointed, but I am very proud of our effort tonight."
On his team's ball movement:
"Yes, we had good ball movement. That is one of the things we try to do, we try to share the basketball, to make sure everyone is going to touch it. We want to make defenses guard everybody, not just one player."
Jacksonville Guard Ben Smith
On coming into the game motivated:
"We are still looking for that first win. We came in knowing we were going to have to fight and we were ready for the competition. When you haven't won a game, you are pretty hungry and we are even hungrier now .Our motto is `always fight' and we came up a little short, but you can't fault the effort."
On Baylor Guard LaceDarius Dunn:
"He is tough. He is a good shooter and he has other great players to go with him. The point guards [Curtis] Jerrells and [Tweety] Carter get in the lane and they find him and he does his job, which is to make open shots. "
