Baylor, College of Charleston Postgame Quotes

  Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement...
"I thought College of Charleston really played a nice game. They shot 50 percent from the three and we couldn't put the ball in the hole. Thirty-nine percent field-goal shooting is one thing, but when you're 7-for-15 from the free throw line and 4-for-17 for three, that makes it hard to overcome when the team is shooting 50 percent on the other end."

On not having Brady Heslip...
"You miss his shooting, but you also miss his leadership and poise down the stretch. It was great experience for our young guys. A lot of them have never been in that situation before. Hopefully we learn and grow from it, because we should have a lot of close games from here on out. That's why we put this schedule together, to help get us ready for conference and we have to get better from it."

On the College of Charleston...
"They're a good team. The last couple of years they beat North Carolina when they were(ranked) ninth, they've beaten South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee twice; they beat BC- they're used to winning. We knew it was going to be a good game. We were hoping we were going to pull it out obviously, but I think we'll learn from it. We'll be a better team because of it, but it hurts you the rest of the year because a lot of people will point to it as a bad loss even though they're a good team."

On using this as a teaching moment...
"We'd love to make them teachable moments right now. Unfortunately, we haven't had many practice days until now. This week we had Isaiah sprain an ankle and Brady out. So we need everyone to get healthy so this week we can get better and work on these situations, because we're going to be in them a lot this year."

  Senior Guard Pierre Jackson

On the last play...
"Isaiah (Austin) set a great screen for me to get to the rim, I just couldn't finish. We got the rebound, but we just weren't able to kick it out for the three."

On what went wrong...
"We're upset, but we can only be upset with ourselves. Prior to the game we didn't prepare well enough as a team, we didn't pay enough attention to the scouting report and they executed well and capitalized on our mistakes."

  Senior Guard A.J. Walton

On what they saw offensively from College of Charleston...
"Coming into the game, we knew they could shoot the ball. They're a team that hasn't been outrebounded. They stuck to their game plan, they executed well and capitalized on our mistakes."

On the loss of Brady...
"It's tough. It would be tough for any team, losing one of their key scorers and a player who has an Elite Eight under his belt. It'll be like that at times. Injuries happen, we just have to play through."
