Head Coach Scott Drew
On the game...
"I thought in the second half especially, we had great energy on the defensive end holding them to 30 percent shooting. I was pleased with the 19 assists and eight turnovers. I was also please to outrebound them 37-34 because we were down early. The best thing was the free throw shooting as a lot of our guys have been working hard on their free throws. I am glad that we were able to show some of that over the last few games because it is hard to win in close games without hitting free throws."
On the 12-day layoff...
"You definitely like a routine and 12 days off is not the formula. At this particular time, with so many new players on this team, you really like giving them the chance to study and concentrate on those finals and they were able to do that."
On the play of Tweety Carter...
"Tweety (Carter) has really been shooting it well. I think the big thing is that he hasn't forced action and he has let things come to him. He has had good looks and is taking high-percentage shots. Defensively he really got us going there during that stretch where we got after them defensively. I thought he did a great job getting into the paint and distributing the ball."
Sophomore Forward Quincy Acy
On Jackson State's rebounding...
"They were sending a lot of people, but we weren't really hitting, so we got to hit and stick to get the boards. We really have to do a better job of that. Every time you turned around somebody was crashing."
On second half adjustments...
"Coach, at halftime, really emphasized that when he came in, we had to pick up on rebounding, so we made that our duty."
Senior Guard Tweety Carter
On the end of the first half...
"It gave us a spark coming out of halftime. We gave up a lot of rebounds and then second half our bigs picked it up tremendously and we helped them rebound also, and that is always a good thing."
On being in a groove with his three point shot...
"With the teammates that I have, they can't watch everybody. Somebody is going to go off. For Lace (LaceDarius Dunn) to have a game like he had tonight (is) not likely and Ekpe (Udoh) not likely. For Q (Quincy Acy) to go 9-for-10 and Anthony Jones to go four-for-six that is a lot what the team is about. We pick each other up when we are down. Maybe next game Lace will have one of those nights and Ekpe will have one of those nights. That is the great thing about us, because no matter who score,s as long as we get the win we all stay together."
