Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement...
"I am a positive guy, so I will start with the assist to turnover ratio 19-10. It is about the only positive, so we will start with that. Again, the most important thing is the win. Northwestern State deserves a lot of credit, and had a really good game plan. This is a team who went into Auburn and beat Auburn 111-92. In other games they played a real fast style. They did a really good job of shortening the game, and playing under fifteen seconds on offense. With a real good point guard it is tough to take them out of that, but we had some opportunities where we were up nine, but we never pushed it to where that style would not work anymore. Credit them, but I am most disappointed on the glass. That has been a strength, and defense had been a strength and passing has been a weakness, but tonight that broke through for us."

On Kenny Chery...
""He will probably be mad that he did not win it in regulation, but at the same time I though Kenny did a great job in overtime, starting it off with the steal, and really controlling the tempo."

On the break and keeping the team motivated...
"It is the only time all year where you are going to go twelve days without playing a game, and finals at Baylor is always going to take stuff out of you because you are going to study. Different schools might spread them out more, they might study harder or less, but I know that our guys study. I know they are pretty worn out when it comes to finals. As a coach you are energized, you have had nothing to do but practice for a couple of hours here and there for twelve days. Sometimes that is the toughest part when you team is not rested, or prepared mentally, but again that is nothing to take away from Northwestern State."

Junior G Kenny Chery

On overtime...
"After missing that I was like that is a layup I normally make, so I knew coming into overtime I need to be aggressive, and we need to come out with a win."

On being successful late in the game...
"Our patience, everyone being patient and finding he open man. Setting good screens, and I have to give a lot of credit to our big men setting up good screens, and running the right plays at the right time."

Sophomore F Rico Gathers
On rebounding tonight...
"We had a lot of missed opportunities, and we did not take advantage of the 50/50 balls. Like I told the team it is one of those nights, you are not going to be able to snatch them all. It is just something that you build on in practice."

Senior C Cory Jefferson
On playing a smaller team...
"Sometimes it is a little bit difficult when you are used to guys being around your size, and being able to feel them with arms up top. Tonight you really had to look for them, and tonight they got a lot of the 50/50 balls. They played a lot of guard play, and just moved quicker to the ball than we did. That should not have happened, but we were not doing our job tonight like we should have been, and they got to a lot of the 50/50 balls."

Head Coach Mike McConathy

Opening Statement...
"I am proud of both teams for coming out and competing. Both teams played under difficult situations. We had to wait on a kid today to finish a test to catch the bus to drive over here. For both teams to come out and be competitive and play hard and stay within what coaches are trying to get them to do says a lot about both teams. I am extremely proud of my team to come out and play a quality, high level, classy program coached by a gentleman that has high values. That really means a lot to me for my kids to compete at the level that they did."

On Jalan West's shot to send the game to overtime...
"He is pretty big. He just makes plays. He believes that he is going to make shots and he just kept battling, battling and battling and got a pretty good line for a sophomore against the 12th-ranked team in the country. No matter what time of the year it is it was pretty strong and something that we can build off of. Earlier when we played against Auburn he had 30 points. He has a great command of the game."

On his team out rebounding a bigger Baylor team...
"We have been getting torched on the boards all year long and we have worked so hard the last month at rebounding and I think this was good proof to them that they can rebound against whoever. That was a big category for us to be able to compete in. I don't think that they have been out rebounded all year, so that was a big thing for us."

Sophomore Guard Jalan West

On the team's game tonight...
"I think we played a pretty good game up until the last couple of minutes when we had costly turnovers. I think Baylor played a great game also. I thought Coach Mike coached a good game and got us prepared. We played well down the stretch, but it just didn't finish how we wanted to."

On making the last shot to send the game to overtime...
"I thought I missed it, but when I saw it go in I was pretty excited."
