Baylor-Hartford Postgame Quotes

Dec. 22, 2008

Recap |  Box Score |  Notes |  AP Photo Gallery

Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew

On Hartford:
"Hartford is another team that has a chance to win their league. They play a different style, something that will help us when we play a team like Colorado. Every time that we got the lead to double-digits they would come back. Credit them for playing hard."

On the defensive play late in the game:
"It was two things: One, it was our defense picking up, and two, they hit some big shots when (Genesis Maciel) came into the game. He came in and hit those two 3-ponters that were very crucial. Another thing is that (Hartford) went backdoor a lot. Even though they didn't pass it, it took us a little while to adapt down the stretch."

Baylor Senior Forward Kevin Rogers

On adjusting to a half-court tempo:
"Any time that you play a slow down team like (Hartford) it is tough. With the leadership and the veterans that we have on the team, we were able to come through with a victory."

Baylor Senior Guard Henry Dugat

On the game:
"It was a good game for us to go through so that we could go through different situations. We are going to play different teams in conference play. We had to adjust to it and I think we did and we came out with the win."

Baylor Senior Guard Curtis Jerrells

On the guards scoring in the paint:
"That is just the feel that we have. I went in there a couple of times and tried to attack the rim, and I got a layup or two. When I got a little bit winded, Henry (Dugat) or Tweety (Carter) came in there (and took over). That is one of the advantages to our team; we have a lot of guys that can score one-on-one."

Hartford Head Coach Dan Leibovitz

Opening Statement:
"I thought we ran into a very good basketball team tonight... Very balanced scoring, which we expected. I thought that the story of the game to me was the pressure applied on the ball throughout the game and picking up at our foul line and playing 75 feet. Eventually I thought they wore us down. We worked very hard on defense. Our guards were working very hard to free themselves, and I thought at the right time, they made a run and we did not have a whole lot left They are an athletic team, they looked for one another tonight with Curtis Jerrells having a triple-double; he had a good game. I am proud of our guys. We have had too many games like this where the score is not indicative of the battle that really took place."

On Jaret Von Rosenberg:
"I think [Jaret] is very special, coming home playing in front of his family. To be honest with you, I think he could help Baylor because he was one of the better guys on the floor. I am proud of our team tonight."

Hartford Senior Guard Jaret Von Rosenberg

On being matched up against Curtis Jerrells:
"He is a great player. He was a pre-season All-American so that says it all. We played each other a bunch of times in AAU growing up. He has always been a great player and the sky is the limit for him."
