WACO, Texas - Baylor Athletics will host the inaugural Tip-Off Rally at 6:30 p.m. Thursday inside the SUB Bowl at the Bill Daniel Student Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the first 1,000 students in attendance will receive free Whatachick'n® strips meals from the event's sponsor, WHATABURGER.
Players and coaches from both of Baylor's nationally-ranked basketball programs will speak at the event, and Baylor's spirit squads will join in to lead the crowd in game chants and cheers. Players and coaches will also take questions from fans throughout the Tip-Off Rally.
The Tip-Off Rally is open to the public, and fans are encouraged to bring new or lightly-used coats to donate to Waco Project Homeless Connect at the collection points outside the SUB. Anyone who donates a coat will receive a voucher to purchase a $5 ticket for Saturday's 1 p.m. #BackInBlack men's basketball game against Oklahoma, as well as a free WHATABURGER coupon. The coats will be distributed at the yearly Project Homeless Connect of Waco event on Jan. 30.
"WHATABURGER is so proud to serve the Waco community with hot, fresh burgers every day, but we're also very proud to partner with Baylor Athletics to present this exciting Tip-Off Rally and support our Waco neighbors in need through this coat drive," said WHATABURGER Director of Operations Ken McKissick. "WHATABURGER is committed to investing in the communities we serve, and we encourage everyone to come out Thursday to help those who need it most and have some fun with our Baylor basketball teams."
"These coats will assist the Homeless Coalition with meeting our goal at Project Homeless Connect of linking those experiencing homelessness in Waco with available resources," said Cheryl Porter, Board Chair of Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition. "We're honored to partner with Baylor Athletics and WHATABURGER to add this coat drive to their Tip-off Rally."
Baylor's No. 12-ranked men's basketball team play at Texas Tech on Wednesday, then returns home to host Oklahoma in Saturday's #BackInBlack game. The team will wear black uniforms, and all fans are encouraged to wear black to honor the BU football team's Big 12 Championship. Head coach Art Briles and his squad will be recognized at halftime, and fans will be able to take pictures with the Big 12 trophy. For tickets, call 254-710-1000, or visit the Baylor Athletics Ticket Office inside the Ferrell Center.
