Complete Big 12 Weekly Award Release
IRVING, Texas - Baylor men's basketball juniors LaceDarius Dunn and Ekpe Udoh have been named as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, Monday for games of Feb. 8-14 in voting by a panel of media covering the league.
Both Dunn and Udoh earned their third player and rookie recognitions, respectively, this season, becoming the first Bears in the Big 12 era to earn three weekly honors in a single season. It is the second time this year the duo has won weekly accolades in the same week.
Dunn averaged a team-best 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds as Baylor recorded wins Feb. 10 at Nebraska (55-53) and Feb. 13 at home over Missouri (64-62). The junior guard started with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds at Nebraska, as Baylor snapped a four-game road losing streak in the month of February. He followed up with a 17-point, five-rebound effort in the victory over the Tigers. In two games, Dunn converted 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the free throw line and currently sits atop the career free throw percentage list at Baylor with an .835 mark.
Udoh hit two game-winning shots last week in the Baylor victories. The Edmond, Okla., native connected on a hook shot with 26 seconds remaining in the Nebraska game to put the Bears up for good. Against Missouri, he converted a tip-in on a missed field goal by Dunn with 1.3 seconds left to lift BU to the victory. In two games, Udoh averaged 7.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in 34.0 minutes per contest.
He established a school single-season record by blocking his 100th shot, including six rejections at Nebraska. He leads the Big 12 in blocks and ranks second in rebounds with 10.3 per game this season.
Baylor (19-5, 6-4) seeks its third consecutive 20-win season Tuesday when the Bears host the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 7 p.m. CST in the Ferrell Center on FOX Sports Plus. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at 254.710.1000 or at www.BaylorBears.com.
