Maston Named Big 12 MBB Player of the Week
Feb. 19, 2018

IRVING, Texas - Baylor senior forward Terry Maston has been voted the Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It's the career-first Big 12 weekly award for the fourth-year senior.

Maston joins Manu Lecomte (Feb. 12) to give the Bears back-to-back Big 12 Players of the Week for the fifth time in program history. Patrick Hunter and Brian Skinner won consecutively in 1998, LaceDarius Dunn and Ekpe Udoh won back-to-back in 2010, Isaiah Austin and Cory Jefferson won consecutively in 2014 and Johnathan Motley and Lecomte won two straight awards in 2017.

Maston led the Bears to a double-overtime win at Texas on Monday and a home win over No., 7 Texas Tech on Saturday, extending the Bears' winning streak to five straight. He averaged 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 32.0 minutes per game off the bench during the week.

Maston connected on 22-of-39 field goal attempts, shooting .564 from the field. He posted a career-high 26 points and added six rebounds in a career-high 34 minutes at Texas. He scored eight consecutive points in the second half and had six points in each overtime period. All five of Maston's field goals in the overtime periods gave the Bears a lead.

In Saturday's win over Texas Tech, Maston posted 24 points and five rebounds in 30 minutes. He made 10-of-19 field goals, recording more made field goals than the rest of his teammates combined (8-of-35).

Maston sank the game-winning field goal with 1:26 left, erasing a deficit and giving Baylor a 58-57 lead in an eventual 59-57 win. He also had an and-1 layup with 2:38 left as part of five straight points that turned a 57-53 deficit into a 58-53 lead.

The DeSoto, Texas, native has now posted 20-point games off the bench four times in 14 Big 12 games this season. The rest of the league has combined to post nine games with 20-plus points off the bench, and no player has more than two 20-point games off the bench.

Baylor has had 19 different players honored as Big 12 Player of the Week a total of 35 times in the league's 22 seasons, and 18 of those 35 honors have come in the last six seasons. Lecomte and Maston give the Bears seven consecutive seasons with at least two Big 12 Player of the Week winners.

The Bears put their winning streak on the line at 6 p.m. CT Tuesday night against No. 21 West Virginia. Baylor is looking to win six consecutive Big 12 games in a season for the first time in program history.
