MBB Meet the Press: NCAA Sweet 16

Watch Sweet 16 Game Online vs. Saint Mary's - March Madness On Demand video camera

Head Coach Scott Drew
On facing a lower seed...
"I think this tournament showed that there are no Cinderellas. I think that everybody is a giant. If you look at the first day, we had nine top seeds and seven lower seeds win. Really, seeds go out the window when you make the NCAA tournament and the parity of college basketball is here to stay."

On St. Mary's...
"I think you look at it and both teams kind of have a similar road. Both teams have been competitive the last few years, and we saw each other in the Anaheim tournament two years ago. St. Mary's for the last few years, people know that they have a very good program, well coached. So they have been knocking on the door, and we have been knocking on the door. I think both of us have just entered together."

On student support...
"I think students are very excited and they have been so involved with this program. Part of the reason why we have been able to build this program is because the students have come to games and have been supportive even when we did not have a great team win-loss record. Because of their support, because of the Bear Pit, we have all built this together, so I think that everyone is excited together."

On tournament location...
"That is a part of the reason why at the end of the season we were so motivated. A lot of people played for seeds, which we did, but also a chance to play close to home and to see Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn go back to Louisiana. Then to see a bunch of our other players, Anthony Jones being from Houston, and so many fans and friends from there; that has motivated our players as well."

On losing players from last year...
"I think first of all, it goes to the respect of what the guys that left the program last year did with three 1,000 point scorers. We were picked low for a reason and that was out of respect for them. I think with the returning players we have to give all of the credit to them for having great chemistry, great upperclassmen leadership. And at the beginning of the year, coaches can bring in as much talent as possible and hope that they are going to mesh but there is no secret rhyme or reason if you are going to have good chemistry. And the other thing is that we have avoided the injury bug and again that changes everybody's season with injury and we have been fortunate in that area too."

On team balance...
"You always want to have as many talented players as possible but I think that credit goes to the teammates' unselfishness. It starts with Tweety Carter up top who leads the Big 12 in assists, and when you have a point guard who gets everybody involved, he can score yes, but at the same time he gets the ball to the open person. And Ekpe Udoh does such a great job, normally your big guys are not great assist guys. He is different in that. So those two being so unselfish really helps spread the ball around."

Senior Center Josh Lomers
On facing St. Mary's inside game...
"It will be fun. It is always an enjoyment to play another big man. You get to bump and grind and just fight with them a little bit more than you do with some of the other guys. It will be fun. It will be a fight but it will be enjoyable."

On being the difference maker...
"We wanted to win and that is what we got. I am not really worried about who got it and who did what. We all did our part and I did not do anything alone and nothing I do is without my team."

Sr. Guard Tweety Carter
On playing in the Sweet 16...
"We are looking forward to it. It means a lot to us, this program and everything we put in this season. We are looking forward to going out there and competing."

On the team chemistry...
"The unselfishness that we have and the willingness to push each other to be better each day. It started in the summer. We made sure everybody was here playing pickup, getting along, and not just playing to be playing but playing to win games, and getting used to winning and knowing how to compete at all times."

On the campus environment...
"It means a lot. Especially when you can bring something like this back to this program and the joy you see around campus is just different that you have seen in the past. So we want to continue to do that but also continue to get better as a team and as a family."

On backcourt chemistry...
"Throughout our career we have always had three other guards so it has been harder to really show what we had together. At the same time, we learned from those guys and see how well they played together and just learn and try to carry over throughout our years without them here. Lace and I have just depended on each other for a little while now, so it is just being able to know each other and the love that we have for each other and the unselfishness we have for each other allows us to perform on the court."

Jr. Forward Ekpe Udoh
On the campus environment...
"It is great when you can bring the university as one. It is really coming together. This morning I heard that the ticket line was long and you do not see that here, so it is good to see that times are changing and it is exciting."

On Josh Lomers...
"He is just doing a great job this year. We all believe in him and he knows it. The last game he just carried us in the second half. He is doing a great job and going into St. Mary's they have big players like we do so it is going to be a good battle for us."

On facing St. Mary's center Omar Samhan...
"As a competitor he is being labeled as one of the best big men in the tournament so it is always to good to take a challenge."

On team chemistry...
"From day one we just came together this year. That has gotten us through the last couple of games. The last couple of games has been tied down the stretch and we just stretched it out. That is just trusting in everybody around you and believing in what they can do."

Jr. Guard LaceDarius Dunn
On making it to the Sweet 16...
"To come from what it was to now, Sweet 16, we have accomplished a lot of great things. It has really been fun. It has been a fun journey and we still have a little ways to go. Just where we are right now is very important to the whole Baylor program. To have everybody excited right now and in the moment right now but like I said we have just got to stay focused."

On trusting Tweety...
"He is leading the Big 12 in assists, no doubt. Just being the solid rock of the team and making everything happen; if you get open he is sure to find you and get you the ball."

On the team chemistry...
"This summer, just being around each other and getting the feel for each other. It was where it all started. Everybody got on the same page and agreed on the same things. We had the same goals and that is what really got us going and got to where we are right now."
