WACO, Texas - Baylor University has signed Carl Marshall of Crane Technical High School in Chicago to a national letter of intent, head basketball coach Dave Bliss announced Friday.

"We are very excited about Carl Marshall." Bliss said. "With the loss of Andre White, we had a definite need for a player like Carl and we think he can contribute immediately to helping our team continue to improve."

As a senior in 2003, Marshall helped guide Crane to a 25-0 regular season and Chicago Public League championship. He averaged 18.9 points and six assists for the Cougars, who finished the season 26-1 after a two-point loss in the regional finals.

In his three-year career at CTHS Marshall accumulated over 1,500 points and 200 assists, and set school records for 3-point shooting percentage (48.9%) and free throw percentage (90.2%).

The 5-10, 160-pound Marshall averaged 17.5 points as a junior on head coach Anthony Longstreet's Crane squad that was 22-9 and won the Chicago Public League Tournament. He averaged 13.8 points as a sophomore in 2001 and Crane finished 24-8.

Marshall was rated No. 33 nationally among point guards by Hoop Scoop as a junior. He is listed as the No. 12 senior by Chicago-Detroit Hoop Connect and rated the No. 20 senior in Illinois by highschoolelite.com. Marshall played in the 2003 Chicagoland Jamboree all-star game as a senior and was an All-City team selection by the Chicago Sun-Times following his junior year.

The left-handed Marshall played for AAU teams Illinois Warriors, Chicago Demons and Illinois Fire.

Marshall is Baylor's third signee of 2002-2003, joining Tyrone Nelson of Hempstead (Texas) High School and Harvey Thomas of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
