MAUI, Hawaii – The bracket for the 2013 EA Sports Maui Invitational was announced Wednesday, revealing that Baylor will open the Championship Round against host Chaminade on Nov. 25 at Maui’s oceanfront Lahaina Civic Center.
Baylor’s game against Chaminade will tip off at 8:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPNU. The Bears will then face either Dayton or Gonzaga the following day, and they’ll close the tournament with a game against Arkansas, California, Minnesota or Syracuse.
Each of the seven mainland teams will host a game in the tournament’s opening round. Baylor’s game is against Louisiana on Nov. 17 at the Ferrell Center, though tipoff time is to be determined.
Baylor will be making its second appearance in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Bears went 1-2 at the 1987 tournament, and they join Minnesota and California as the only teams in the field with just one previous appearance. Dayton, Gonzaga and Syracuse have all claimed tournament championships in the past.
All 12 games in the tournament’s Championship Round – the games played in Maui – will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Baylor is coming off an NIT Championship and a 23-14 record in 2012-13. The Bears recorded their fifth 20-win season in the last six years and claimed the first national postseason tournament championship in program history.
BU returns starters Isaiah Austin, Cory Jefferson and Brady Heslip, as well as reserves Gary Franklin, Rico Gathers, Logan Lowery, Taurean Prince and Chad Rykhoek. Head coach Scott Drew will coach his 11th season at Baylor in 2013-14, and he’s guided the Bears to a school-record and Big 12-best 15 postseason wins over the last five years.
