July 19, 2007
WACO, Texas -- Baylor sophomore Tweety Carter will take part in an Athletes In Action basketball tour of Germany Aug. 9-19, that features six games against German professional teams. The team, made up of collegiate players and coached by UMass assistant coach Tim Maloney and Valparaiso assistant coach Jason Hawkins, will participate in a three-day training camp beginning Aug. 9 in Valparaiso before leaving for Berlin. The squad will play six games over a six-day stretch beginning Aug. 13. "Our staff is excited that Tweety has this opportunity," Baylor head coach Scott Drew said. "Traveling with Athletes In Action this summer gives him a great chance to develop not only his basketball skills, but to develop spiritually and culturally also." Carter, a 5-10 guard, returns for his second season at Baylor this fall. He averaged 8.7 points and started the final 13 games last season as a true freshman. Carter finished second among Big 12 freshmen with 57 3-pointers and third with 2.7 assists per game in 2006-07. The AIA France team is one of 11 Athletes In Action basketball teams competing internationally this summer. In addition to Carter the roster includes: Stuart Creason (Colorado State), Chris Kramer (Purdue), Alex McLean (Liberty), Brandon McPherson (Valparaiso), Trent Meacham (Illinois), Mitch Platt (Oregon), Richard Semrau (Illinois), Anthony Smith (Liberty) and Dwight Thorne II (Colorado).
