Men's Hoops Announces 2013 Big 12 Schedule

Baylor has been ranked in each of the last five seasons.

Aug. 9, 2012

IRVING, Texas – Baylor will have a school record 17 of its 18 Big 12 Conference games televised in 2013, including three ESPN Big Monday contests, 14 total games on the ESPN family of networks and three games on the Big 12 Network, the league office announced Thursday.

The Bears will play four games on ESPN, five on ESPN2, five on ESPNU and three on the Big 12 Network, and the lone remaining game could be selected for TV at a later date.

Baylor, which has been ranked in each of the last five seasons, opens conference play at home against Texas (Jan. 5) in a game that will be televised on ESPNU at 1 p.m. CT. The Bears then travel to Texas Tech (Jan. 8) for a 6 p.m. tipoff in their first 2013 Big 12 road game.

The Bears then face TCU (Jan. 12) for the first time as league opponents since the Southwest Conference disbanded in 1996. Two days later, Baylor travels to Kansas (Jan. 14) for its first of three ESPN Big Monday games.

Baylor’s next Big 12 game will also be on Big Monday, as the Bears host Oklahoma State (Jan. 21) at 4:30 p.m. in the first half of a Martin Luther King Day doubleheader. The Bears then face TCU (Jan. 26) in Fort Worth on the Big 12 Network and return home to host Oklahoma (Jan. 30) on ESPNU.

BU plays back-to-back road games twice in the second year of the Big 12’s double round-robin format. The Bears travel to Iowa State (Feb. 2) and Oklahoma State (Feb. 6) for the first pair of consecutive road games, and both of those contests will be on ESPN2. Baylor also plays at Oklahoma (Feb. 23; ESPNU) and at West Virginia (Feb. 27; Big 12 Network) in consecutive road games.

Baylor plays two home games in a row against Texas Tech (Feb. 9; Big 12 Network) and West Virginia (Feb. 13; ESPN2). The game against the Mountaineers will be the first time the teams have ever met in Waco. Baylor beat WVU 83-81 in overtime in the Las Vegas Classic championship game on Dec. 23 last season, in what was the first-ever series meeting.

Following the consecutive home games, Baylor travels to Kansas State (Feb. 16) for a game that will be televised on ESPN2. The Bears host Iowa State (Feb. 20) and Kansas State (March 2) before playing their final road game of the conference slate at Texas (March 4) in the league’s final ESPN Big Monday game of the season. Baylor wraps up conference play by hosting Kansas (March 9) on ESPN.

The Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship will be played March 13-16 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The championship will begin for the second straight year with two first-round games on Wednesday, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and title contest in successive days.

The Big 12 Network is in its fifth year, with games seen throughout the conference’s geographic footprint and produced by ESPN Regional Television. It has been or will be distributed in numerous other markets, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, San Diego, Milwaukee, Baltimore and Providence. Among all the televised games, most will be shown as part of ESPN Full Court and available on WatchESPN.

The Big 12 has had six or more teams earn NCAA berths in four of the last five seasons, and the Big 12 is the nation’s only conference to be rated among the top three in the final RPI in each of the past five seasons. Additionally, the 19 Big 12 teams to advance to the Elite Eight since 2002 leads the nation.

The non-conference portion of Baylor’s 2012-13 schedule will be announced on Tuesday. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the Baylor Athletics Ticket Office at 254-710-1000.
