WACO, Texas – The Baylor men’s basketball team will tip-off the 2011-12 season with ‘Moonlight Madness’ on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Ferrell Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and admission is free.
Baylor will be one of 11 sites spotlighted during ESPNU Midnight Madness, which will air Oct. 14 from 8 p.m.-Midnight CDT and preview the top college programs in whip-around coverage of 11 basketball events across the nation. ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla will be at the Ferrell Center during Baylor’s first official practice, providing on-site analysis and interviews.
The one-hour formal program will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature both a 3-point and dunk contest and a 20-minute intrasquad scrimmage. An autograph session will be held on the court following the scrimmage.
After missing the postseason for the first time in four seasons, Baylor enters the 2011-12 season with arguably the most talented roster in program history. Behind one of the nation’s most athletic frontlines, Baylor is led by senior PF Quincy Acy, sophomore PF Perry Jones III and freshman SF Quincy Miller. Baylor, which has been ranked as high as No. 9 by Sporting News, is the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 in 2012 by several publications.
Jones III, who is one of 50 players on the John R. Wooden Award Preseason list, has been tabbed a preseason All-American by Sporting News (first team), Athlon (second team) and Blue Ribbon (second team), first-team All-Big 12 by three preseason publications and Big 12 Player of the Year by both Lindy’s and Athlon.
Baylor opens the 2011-12 season Nov. 1 with an exhibition against Abilene Christian, followed by its regular-season opener Nov. 11 vs. Texas Southern. Fans interested in purchasing season tickets may do so online, by calling 254-710-1000 or at the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at the Ferrell Center.
