Men's Hoops Lands Miller, Bello for 2011-12

WACO, Texas – Westchester [N.C.] Country Day School teammates Quincy Miller and Quddus “Deuce” Bello have signed National Letters of Intent for the 2011-12 academic year to attend Baylor, head coach Scott Drew announced Tuesday. Miller, who is rated the No. 2 overall prospect in the Class of 2011 by, is widely considered as one of the top 10 high school players in the country. The 6-foot-9 forward is ranked No. 4 overall in the ESPNU Top 100, No. 4 by, No. 5 by and No. 8 by The Hoop Scoop. Miller, a five-star recruit by ESPN, and, is also rated the nation’s top power forward by, No. 2 by ESPNU and and No. 3 by The Hoop Scoop.

As a junior in 2009-10 at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C., Miller averaged 25.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 assists. Miller and current Baylor freshman Stargell Love guided the Fighting Pharaohs to the 2010 National Christian Schools Athletic Association (NCSAA) championship, earning NCSAA MVP honors.

“Quincy (Miller) is a very versatile big who can play almost every position on the court,” Drew said. “He can handle (the ball), pass it, shoot it and, because of his athleticism, is obviously a good defender.

“He has abilities that you can’t coach and is still eager to work hard and improve on his game,” Drew said.

Bello is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN, and The 6-foot-4 guard is ranked No. 33 overall in the ESPNU Top 100, No. 36 by The Hoop Scoop, No. 38 by, No. 43 by and No. 45 by Bello, who is listed as a guard, is rated the No. 8 small forward by, the No. 9 small forward by ESPNU, No. 11 shooting guard by and No. 14 shooting guard by The Hoop Scoop.

Bello averaged 19.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a junior in 2009-10. He is a three-time all-conference and two-time all-state selection, while earning conference player of the year honors twice during his time at Westchester Country Day School. He also averaged 20.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.3 steals as a sophomore in 2008-09.

“Deuce (Bello) is widely regarded as possibly the best athlete in the 2011 class,” Drew said. “For a guard, he has tremendous leaping ability and is a human highlight film.”

With the signings of Miller and Bello, Baylor has now inked six consensus top-50 recruits in the last five years under Drew, joining LaceDarius Dunn (2007), Anthony Jones (2008), Nolan Dennis (2009) and Perry Jones III (2010).

“Both Quincy and Deuce will really fit in well both on and off the court at Baylor,” Drew said. “I know Baylor Nation will be very excited to cheer both of them on in a Baylor uniform next season.”
