Complete DIRECTV Charleston Classic Presented by Foster Grant Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Baylor men’s basketball has been selected to participate in the 2012 DIRECTV Charleston Classic Presented by Foster Grant, which will be held Nov. 15, 16 and 18, at TD Arena. The Charleston Classic is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, Inc. (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN.

Baylor, ranked No. 11 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, was originally scheduled for the 2011 Charleston Classic. The Southern Conference (SoCon) will serve as the event’s sponsoring conference for the fifth straight year. In addition to Baylor, the field for the 2012 Charleston Classic will include Boston College (ACC), Charleston (SoCon), former Big 12 Conference rival Colorado (Pac-12), Dayton (Atlantic 10), St. John’s (BIG EAST) and Southern Illinois (Missouri Valley). The eighth team will be announced at a later date.

The 2012 Charleston Classic will feature 12 games over three days (Nov. 15, Nov. 16 and Nov. 18). Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two remaining undefeated teams will face off in the championship game on Nov. 18. Georgetown won the 2010 Charleston Classic, with Miami (Fla.) winning in 2009 and Clemson taking the title in the inaugural tournament in 2008.

Baylor’s inclusion in the Charleston Classic marks the fourth time in five seasons the Bears will play in an ESPN-hosted tournament. In 2008, Baylor lost in the championship game of the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif. In 2009, the Bears finished fifth at the Old Spice Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and in 2010, Baylor went 1-2 at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.
