IRVING, Texas - Baylor men's basketball power forward Quincy Acy (Mesquite, Texas) was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week Monday for the week of Nov. 17-23 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. Acy shares his first weekly honor with Oklahoma's Willie Warren; Warren's teammate Blake Griffin was named Big 12 Player of the Week.
Acy becomes the 11th player in school history to earn Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors, joining teammates Curtis Jerrells (Austin, Texas), Tweety Carter (Reserve, La.) and LaceDarius Dunn (Monroe, La.).
Acy helped the Bears (3-0) to a 2-0 record last week and established a Big 12 record in the process. The freshman forward averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in 21.5 minutes per game. He also set a conference record with his 18th consecutive field goal made, converting 12-of-12 shots last week. Acy is 18-of-18 so far this season, the only regular in the Big 12 that has not missed an attempt from the floor. He ranks fourth on the team in scoring (14.3 ppg) and is one of five BU players that has scored in double digits in all three contests.
Following Monday's home contest with the Jacksonville Dolphins, the Baylor Bears will travel to Anaheim, Calif., for the 76 Classic which will be held Nov. 27-30 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Baylor opens the tournament Thanksgiving Night against the Providence Friars at 10:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.
