Complete Big 12 Release

IRVING, Texas – Baylor men’s basketball sophomore Brady Heslip was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week for Dec. 19-25 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference.

It is Heslip’s career-first Big 12 weekly award and Baylor’s second in as many weeks. Last week, Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Perry Jones III shared Big 12 Player of the Week honors with Oklahoma’s Steven Pledger. Heslip is the first Baylor player to earn Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors since PJ3 did so three times during the 2010-11 season.

Heslip averaged 14.0 points on 70 percent field goal shooting (14-for-20) and a 69-percent clip from 3-point range (11-for-16), leading Baylor to three wins and a Las Vegas Classic championship. Heslip, who has scored in double figures in four straight games, scored 12 points in 17 minutes on 4-for-6 shooting – all from 3-point range – in Baylor’s 95-54 rout vs. Paul Quinn (Dec. 19). He followed with 11 points on 3-for-4 shooting (2-for-3 3FG) in a 72-59 win over Saint Mary’s (Dec. 22).

In the Las Vegas Classic championship game, Heslip scored a career-high 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, to lead Baylor to an 83-81 overtime win over future Big 12 member West Virginia.

Heslip has made at least one 3-point field goal in all 12 games this season and 37 of his 42 field goals this season have been from 3-point range. He has 10 games with 2+ 3-point field goals and five games with 4+ triples. The Burlington, Ontario, native ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 10.8 points-per-game, shooting 47.2 percent from the floor (42-of-89) and a blistering 48.7 percent from 3-point range (37-of-76). He leads the Big 12 in 3-point field goals per game (3.1) and is a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line through 12 games.

No. 6/7 Baylor (12-0) has matched the best start in school history through 12 games and will conclude its non-conference schedule at 8 p.m. CST Wednesday in Dallas against No. 15/14 Mississippi State (12-1).
