The Bear Pit

The Bear Pit was created in 2005 as a student organization to support and cheer for the Baylor men's basketball team. The official stated purpose of The Bear Pit is to increase and promote school spirit at Baylor men's basketball games; thereby creating an atmosphere of excitement for both players and fans to enjoy. And this is exactly what The Bear Pit has accomplished. In its inaugural season, The Bear Pit debuted with a turnout of over 400 students cheering behind the baskets in their flashy black and gold striped jerseys. As the year progressed, membership grew to over 500 students and media attention soon turned to the Bear Pit. Athletic Director Ian McCaw, Baylor Line Magazine, Scout.com, The Baylor Lariat and others have all praised the efforts of The Bear Pit and recognized its potential to be the premier student cheering section in the Big 12 Conference, and perhaps all of college basketball.

During the 2006-2007 season, the Bear Pit's membership soared to nearly 750 students as excitement for men's basketball returned to Baylor. The Ferrell Center is a hostile environment again and head coach Scott Drew says the Pit is a ten point swing in any game. The start of the 2007-2008 season brought basketball excitement back to Baylor and membership number soared. Merely two home games into the season, membership reached 800 students with plenty more eager to join. The 2009-2010 season boasted around 1,000 members. The Bear Pit also traveled to the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, and the University of Oklahoma, showing that the intensity of the Bear Pit can also take a home court advantage on the road.

Reasons to Join The Bear Pit

The Bear Pit is a great way to get involved and support the Baylor men's basketball program. Upon joining the Bear Pit, you will be given the distinguished black and gold striped Bear Pit jersey. Also, you will receive access to floor seats reserved solely for members of the Bear Pit. Membership fees are $20 for new students and $10 for returning students. Pizza and drinks are given out at each home game. The Bear Pit also sells merchandise such as T-shirts, sweatshirts, car decals, and more.

Aside from the numerous benefits of joining the Bear Pit, being a member is simply a great way to bond with the team and other basketball fans, and to let loose both your Baylor pride and spirit. In its inaugural season, the Baylor Bear Pit became notorious as a rowdy group, yet one that stayed both clean and creative throughout the season. This legacy continues as students turn out in the hundreds to let the world know they love their Bears and are going to support them in their quest for a national championship. The Bear Pit has been recognized nationally for their efforts and support. This is our house! Are you ready to be a part of it?
