Rafe Mata is in his second season on the Baylor staff as the assistant director of football operations in charge of offensive quality control.

Mata joined Baylor from the University of Houston, where he spent the past eight seasons as an assistant coach, most recently working with the Cougars' inside receivers and tight ends. During his tenure at UH, he also worked with the Cougar signal callers and organized many offensive, special teams and recruiting areas for the program.

A native of Overton, Texas, Mata earned a bachelor's degree from Houston in 2003. He played quarterback at Kilgore (Texas) High School, earning district offensive MVP honors in 1996, and was also a standout basketball player at the school from 1994-97. Mata played wide receiver for the Cougars in 1997 and 1998.

Mata and his wife, Mindee, have three children, Andon Price, Cate-Lynn Isabella and Alee DeAnn.
