Brian Polian enters his fourth season of coaching and his second at Baylor, where he serves as the defensive graduate assistant. Polian's duties include coaching the sam linebackers and coordinating special teams.

Polian came to Baylor from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y., where he served as tight ends and assistant offensive line coach. In 1998, the University at Buffalo offense finished 12th in the nation in rushing offense and in the top 25 in total offense in NCAA Division I-AA.

Prior to going to the University at Buffalo, Polian served as the offensive graduate assistant at Michigan State. While at MSU, he served as the assistant offensive line coach and also worked with the special teams. In Polian's one fall in East Lansing, the Spartans finished 24th in the nation and played in the Aloha Bowl.

Polian has a family tradition in football. His father, Bill Polian, is the president and general manager of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. His older brother, Chris Polian, also works for the Colts as the director of pro scouting. Polian's relationship with Kevin Steele began when he served as an intern for Coach Steele for three summers during Carolina Panthers training camps. Polian's father and brother were both on the staff of the Panthers at the time.

A graduate of John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, Polian earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1997. Polian lettered three years at linebacker at John Carroll and was named to the all-Ohio Athletic Conference team in 1996. While at John Carroll, Polian helped lead the 1994 and '96 teams to top-10 finishes in the national rankings for Division III.

In February of 1999, Polian came to Baylor to join Steele and pursue his master's degree in sports management. He is an avid runner, having competed in the 1996 Charlotte Marathon along with Steele. Polian is single and resides in Hewitt.
