No. 23 WAKE FOREST (1-0) 41, BAYLOR (0-1) 13 FLOYD CASEY STADIUM • WACO, TEXAS OCT. 28, 2008 • ATTENDANCE: 30,633

HEAD COACH Art Briles On the outcome of the game... "Certainly not the way we planned it to happen, without a doubt. The thing that is really painful to me and to our staff is you want to give people a reason to believe, you want to keep them around, you want to keep them excited and we did not do that tonight. That to me is very disturbing. So I am embarrassed that I think we did not do a good job of representing Baylor University."

On the fan support... "I do want to say we appreciate the crowd, the student body for coming out and supporting us."

On bright spots to the game... "We are not going to be judged in December by what happened in August. I am proud to be a Baylor Bear, so we got some things we can fight for. They are proud to be Baylor Bears."

On Robert Griffin's play... "I thought he played hard. I thought he provided a sparked, which he has to do for us. I would like to be saying that he played hard and provided a spark and we won the game. The object is to win the football game, not for individuals to play well. He is poised, very poised."

On turnovers... "You can't have it. You can't do that. You can't do that against anybody. Consequently, you are not going to win football games if you can't win the turnover battle. Two of those were self inflicted wounds, they were unforced errors and that's the worst part about it. We honestly have not had any problems with that (turnovers) through practice. Everything is a little bit different when you get under the lights in a game. "

LINEBACKER Joe Pawelek On first half short field situations... "That is just kind of the way the game played out. We were put in some short fields, but at the same time that is what the defense's job is... to stop them; whether you're on the 50 or the 10. It was a complete team loss today from the top to bottom. We didn't show up to play and it showed."

On mistakes and turnovers... "It's disappointing and you work so hard throughout the summer, spring ball and two a days. The great part is we still have 11 times to line up. This is only take one. We have got to learn from our mistakes. We will come here tomorrow, lift, run and watch film and just continue to get better."

Getting positives out of the game... "We are all pretty healthy. As you all saw, Wake is a good team and we made our fair share of mistakes. We have to start correcting them tomorrow."

QUARTERBACK Robert Griffin On your individual performance... "My performance really doesn't matter the outcome of the game is was matters and we didn't get the W today. I've just got to do better to help us get that done."

On the 22-yard run down the sideline... "It was really a momentum shifter to run and get to the edge. I just had to be patient and run behind Jason Smith. When he opened a hole for me, I ran up and made the guy miss on the sideline, then got a few extra yards.

How did you feel out there... "I felt comfortable. I didn't really look at it as my first game, I was just trying to come out and help these guys win because I know they want it and they deserve it."

QUARTERBACK Kirby Freeman On being tested tonight, in his first performance... "The main thing is I wasn't the only one tested tonight. Our football team was tested, our coaching staff and fans were tested. You know you guys will be tested, ya know what is going to come out in tomorrow's paper, is it going to be good or bad, supportive or not supportive. Its just a matter of, as a community, how we want to go about this thing and I can promise you I'm a fire and I am going to go in the right direction."

On having another shot... "I'm tired of taking shots. I'm just ready to relax and play some football. For the first time this morning when coach told us I was going to start, the first thing I did was go to Robert (Griffin) and Blake (Szymanski) because that's the type of guy I am. I wanted to make sure we were on the same page and be supportive. I knew Robert was going to play, I didn't know when or how. He came in and I didn't play the majority of the game."

HEAD COACH JIM GROBE On the game... "I thought we did a good job at protecting [Riley Skinner]. We had a few times that we broke down and they had a big play. I thought the offensive line played pretty good."

On opening the season on the road as a ranked team... "I was proud of them. It would have been easy to come here and not be ready to play. I don't know if I have ever been more nervous about an opening game. We have always played well as an underdog and I was a bit concerned coming into the game with a top 25 ranking."

On Baylor... "I think every coaches nightmare is opening up the season on the road against a good team from a major conference. Coach Briles, we know what a great job he does. They have some great young players. We had very little knowledge of the X's and O's on both sides of the ball, so we had to do some adjusting during the game."

On Robert Griffin... "He was pretty impressive. For a young kid to get out there and do some of the things that he did tonight, he got my attention. I think as he gets more comfortable and they start having a little bit more time with him, they are going to do some good stuff. He gave us fits tonight."

On the turnover battle... "It was huge. We had the chance to feel pretty comfortable, but then we turned the ball over. Both teams hurt themselves with turnovers. Anytime you are playing at this level, you have to take care of the football. I am a little bit dissappointed that we put the ball on the ground that many times, but I felt when Baylor turned the ball over, it really helped us out."

QUARTERBACK RILEY SKINNER On the Wake Forest offense... "We tried some fornations that we have not done in the past and we were empty a little bit more than we normally are. We used a lot of different players on our offense and we spread the ball out and we felt that we kept everybody on their heals."

On the turnover battle... "We were efficient for the most part, but you cannot come away from a game completely satisfied. We had a couple of turnovers and some dropped passes. There are some things that we need to get worked out. We kept shooting ourselves in the foot with turnovers. We fumbled the ball twice and gave them the ball. Our defense just played unbelievable tonight and got the ball back for us and allowed us to put some points on the board.."

TIGHT END BEN WOOSTER On Riley Skinner... "[Riley Skinner] looked pretty good. We have been working real hard at camp and trying to fit somethings into our system, so it was nice to see everything work."

On preparing for Baylor... "We didn't know exactly what they were going to do. They had new offensive and defensive coordinators. At camp, we looked at every possible situaton that we could be in. Getting out there and getting a quick start really helped us with the tempo. They were great, and it was a tough game."

WIDE RECIEVER D.J. BOLDIN On getting the win on the road... "I think that we couild have played better. We had a lot of mistakes, a lot of penalties and dropped balls. For a first game, there is nothing better than coming on the road and getting a win."

On Riley Skinner... "He stood away from the pressure and kept his poise in the pocket tonight. He did a great job and did not make any bad decsions."
