Baylor Head Coach Art Briles

Opening statement...
"That's what it has been all about since about two years ago, and certainly the last four or five months: just the unveiling of the stadium and the atmosphere. The first time I got over here I said, `shoot I don't plan big enough, dream big enough or foresee big enough,' because the atmosphere today prior to the game was everything we hoped it could be. I mean, like I said it is unmimicked. Nobody can match it anywhere, and that is a great thing about it. We need to all be very thankful and responsible and that is how we feel as a football team."

On injuries to Bryce Petty and Antwan Goodley...
"I wish I could answer that, I don't know. We will have to answer that tomorrow. [Bryce] got hurt on the opening series. We knew something was wrong, because that is not Bryce at all. I really don't know the situation of him or Antwan."

On Baylor's defensive shutout performance...
"I don't feel like we were that effective offensively. We were just kind of hit or miss on some things. But defensively, that's how we won the game. We kind of felt like going in we would have a good defense. What I saw tonight was a lot of strength and a lot of speed. We are still a work in progress."

On opening up McLane Stadium...
"There were some distractions. I don't think I have ever coached in a bigger game. When I felt like I was indebted to so many people and a cause. It just makes it more meaningful. I try not to let it rub off on our kids. Reality is reality. They have eyes, they have ears. They see and they hear."

Baylor QB Bryce Petty

On coming together as a team after an uncharacteristic start...
"I definitely wasn't throwing as well as I wanted to today and that had everything to do with it. Hat's off to my teammates, they really picked me up. It just goes to show you how chemistry-wise on this team we really are jelling together. I thought we were kind of sloppy early, but we started pushing some stuff and came together. It wasn't our normal Baylor offense out there."

On the team's preparation heading into the game...
"I felt like as a team we work. I think as soon as we got off the bus and had The Bear Walk there was just unbelievable support. I think we wanted to show off for those fans and everybody. That might have caught up to us a little bit, but I feel like overall we were prepared coming into the game."

On sitting out the second half due to injury...
"It's always tough, I want to be out there. I told those guys before, putting those headphones on before brought back memories. I really didn't want to put those back on. But at the same time, you have to know yourself; you have to know your limits. at some point you have to say, `hey, I think that I need to sit this out.'"

Baylor QB Seth Russell

On starting the second half due to Bryce Petty's injury...
"It's just one of those situations. As the game progressed I was able to get out there and kind of fill in the shoes a little bit and relax and just get into the zone. The offensive line did an amazing job with all the blitzes they had. . It definitely helped me out. It's amazing, being able to get out there put a drive together, and be in the endzone. That's what the game is about -- being able to score and move the ball."

Baylor OT Spencer Drango

On the first game of the season...
"It's the first game so everyone is a little rusty. There were just some little things we needed to work out as a team, whether it's a penalty or so. The false start here or there or holding can really kill a drive and it's a momentum killer so we have to get those out of our system and out of our game so we can actually be a little better up front as well."

Baylor DE Jamal Palmer

On not getting a ton of personal hype...
"Shawn Oakman -- he needs to get all the hype, and that's good for me. If Shawn gets all the hype, it means he is a great player, and he is. He makes big plays -- he can do that. This is his time."

SMU Head Coach June Jones

On Baylor's defense...
"We knew that they were a pretty good defense and more talented than what they have been given credit for. I just didn't expect us to not be able to block them at all. I knew it was going to be a challenge. We scripted a lot of things to get the ball out quickly. We did not do what we needed to do to win the football game. It's hard for the quarterback to go back and throw anything when he doesn't have time. We did not protect the quarterback."

On playing multiple quarterbacks...
"I had already planned on playing two quarterbacks. I knew that it was a limited package with Matt [Davis] in terms of what he wanted to do. When our protection broke down I could tell that he was unsure of what he was doing. He didn't have a chance. He was fighting in there to scramble. We've obviously got to do better and coach them up better. We have to fight harder on offense. I thought there were some good things on defense that we did along with special teams. If we don't get it turned around on offense it's going to be a tough week next week."

SMU QB Neal Burcham

On the loss...
"It was tough. We knew that going in they were a good team. They have the athleticism up front and are fast. We had to do a better job of handling that. We have to do better next time."

On the game plan...
"We were hoping to score, first of all. That would've been nice. I think the execution part of it didn't go as we thought it would. We kind of knew what they were going to attack us with. We just didn't execute. That's what it comes down to. We will look at the film to see what we did right and what we did wrong. I think execution has a lot to do with it."

SMU SS Hayden Greenbauer

On his first game back since his knee injury...
"We have a great training staff and great doctors who made it easier for me to get back to 100 percent. First game you are always going to have more missed tackles than you want. As a team you've got to get the rust off. We have to pick up all the pieces and keep going."

On what was missing from tonight's game...
"In games like this, you really want some big momentum-shifting plays, like turnovers. I feel like we didn't get any of those early on. After looking at the film I am sure we will be happy with the plays that we did make."
