SEPT. 26, 2009 • ATTENDANCE: 36, 452

On guys who don't typically get to play getting in the game…
"Aside from winning, that's the best part about a game like tonight's, that a lot of these guys got to play. It's fun for them and the people that care about them and it's really good to see those guys who play a lot cheering for them on the sidelines. They work just as hard in practices so it's real exciting to get to see them out on that field."

On Robert (Griffin) going down in the first quarter…
"At first I was just thankful that he was able to get back on the field. I knew the way he got hit that he was bent up a little bit and for him to come back and play showed a lot of guts and determination, which he always shows. He performed tremendously well and got our guys going. We'll have to wait and see what the final analysis is but we're just glad he got to get back out there and play tonight.”

On what a game like tonight's does for the team's confidence…
"Well in my opinion, it's hard to define confidence. Reality and confidence are two different things. You may be confident you're writing a good story, but someone else may not view it that way. It's all what is in the eye of the beholder. We understand we didn't play real way last week and the outcome did not come out in our favor. Having a win tonight got us another win and what we're going to try to do is go out and win against Kent State next Saturday."

On the decision to take a knee in the fourth quarter…
"To me it's not a decision. At that stage of the game putting 75 points on the board would not have done anything. I've been kicked around a little bit and I know how it feels like to be on the other sideline and to be those players and those people that care about those players, and there was no reason to do that. We had the game won and that's what mattered at that point in the game."

QUARTERBACK Robert Griffin
On knee injury in the first quarter…
"When it happened the pain was a 10, but going back out there it was probably a four or five. I knew I had to get back in the game no matter what was wrong with me. Coming off the field I didn't think I could go back in, but once I got off the field and started jogging I got some stability back and was fine."

On taking the hit and getting back out on the field…
"I take pride in being a quarterback and that's what quarterback's do. Some run away from getting hit and sometimes you have to get hit to make a big play, and that's just part of being a quarterback. I know that I can't harp on that and just have to get back out there and lead my team"

On the overall team performance tonight…
"The team performed really well. The defense played really well, and as an offense we came back and put a lot of points on the board and executed. The offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage, so we were making big plays. The running backs ran well and receivers caught the ball."

On Griffin’s injury...
"Hopefully he is going to be alright. I don’t know the extent of exactly what happened or how he is feeling. I think that just shows the heart he has. I think obviously there he was on a bad wheel, but he came out to end the first half and played well."

On the defense struggling early...
“That first drive was just frustrating as a defense. It was a combination of a lot of things. I don’t think it was a deal where we weren’t ready to play, I felt like we were. I think it was a couple of missed tackles, a couple missed oppurtunities, a couple of guys getting out of their gaps. The good thing was we were able to put that behind us, regroup and go from there.”

On his performance...
“I was able to showcase my skills and show coach and everybody else that I am a good player.”

On his first touchdown run...
“I did some shifty moves and I got open and I took it to the house. There was no way that I had run that far and get tackled before the endzone, so I made sure I made it to the endzone.”

Opening statement…
"We knew going into the game that they were a good football team and they proved it tonight. We have to take care of the ball and we have to sustain drives. Defensively we cannot give up big plays and that is what we did tonight. We can’t do that, we have to make them earn it. The key to a team like Baylor, with a great quarterback and as many weapons as they have, is to keep the ball out of their hands."

On the game…
"You can’t give up big plays and that is what we did defensively. We had a spell offensively where we went three-and-out and could not sustain drives. It was a team loss. There is no finger pointing over here. They are a good football team and you have to give them a lot of credit. They do a great job and they have a lot of weapons. You could really see the speed out there. They are a really fast football team. This team will win a lot of games and I predict they will be in a really nice bowl game at the end of the year. They are very well coached."

On Robert Griffin…
"I thought he was a tough guy coming in and he has my respect even more now because we hit him and he kept going. He is a tough guy, a leader and he makes this offense go."
