Baylor - Kansas Post Game Quotes

Oct. 21, 2006

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes |  Photo Gallery

BAYLOR HEAD COACH Guy Morriss

ON PLAYMAKERS:

"If you've got playmakers and people who do hang in there and keep believing and executing, put them in there,"

ON DEFENSE:

"The difference was our defense came to work. The challenge during halftime was to get our energy back up. We weren't playing with the right energy or enthusiasm."

ON SENIORS:

"I imagine the seniors got a hold of the defensive team and got them fired up. They came out in the second half and got it done."

"They have been making plays lately pretty routinely. We've put a lot of ownership and responsibility on our senior class to step up and be leaders and make plays and they've done a great job in responding"

ON ENERGY:

"We were challenging them to go out there and get it done, step it up. It was a total team effort to pick up our energy level."

THE PLAYERS:

"There are guys that hung in there and didn't give in. They found a way to win it. They came back from that far back and my hats off to them."

ON TEXAS A&M GAME

"We get excited about playing A&M. I think we'll come out with a different energy level next weekend. I hope we do, we better."

BAYLOR QB Shawn Bell

ON OFFENSIVE LINE:

"The offensive line did a great job. You can talk about all the great catches; but, if the offensive line doesn't do their job we lose."

ON THE WIN:

"You never want to bring it to the wire. What a great finish. It was tough; but, two more and we are on the way to a bowl."

ON TRENT AND DOMINQUE

"Trent (Shelton) and Dominique (Zeigler) made some great catches. Dominique's jump into the endzone will be remembered for a long time. Dominique also made a great catch on the sideline for the first down. I do not know how he did it; but, he made a great play.

ON SENIOR LEADERSHIP:

"I saw a lot of senior leadership. Every senior stepped up and made plays when we needed them the most."

ON THROWING THE BALL SO MUCH:

"My arm feels fine and my spirits are high, except for the two picks. I feel fine throwing as many times as possible, just as long as we win."

ON WIN:

"All I am thinking about right now is the first Homecoming win in nine years and how we need two more wins to get to a bowl game."

BAYLOR WR Trent Shelton

ON WIN:

"We just all believed. Some of us had our heads down at halftime. However, we picked ourselves back up and were able to pull out a win."

ON SHAWN:

"I told Shawn (Bell) to play his game. You have nothing to lose. Shawn has played great since I have been here and I did not want anybody else behind center. We believed the entire time. The defense said if the offense scored, the defense would hold onto the lead. We did and they came through in the end."

ON FOCUSING

"I dropped a couple of passes; but, it was just a matter of focusing on the ball. I was more focused in the second half and I was able to make the catches."

BAYLOR OS MAURICE LINGUIST

ON OFFENSE:

"They are the reason we won this game. The defense didn't come to play, we didn't show up in the first half."

ON WIN:

"This is the biggest game since I've been here because we were out of the game and we found a way. I am so proud of our team and I'm proud to be a Baylor Bear."

KANSAS HEAD COACH MARK MANGINO

On the loss:

"If I had an explanation, we would have corrected it a while back."

On why Baylor's defense prevailed in the second half:

"We lost personnel. It makes a difference. We ran well in against Baylor until we had some personnel issues and we weren't able to do that anymore. We just couldn't do what we had done earlier in the game."

On Kansas's performance:

"We had chances to make plays and didn't do it. There's no reason for us a defensive unit to allow those quick scores. That's totally unacceptable."

On being unlucky in the fourth quarter:

"I'm not a believer in luck or anything like that. It's never good to leave things to luck in life."

KANSAS OL DAVID OCHOA

"Every loss is tough, you know. But it's not unfamiliar territory to need to win three games out of our last four. We had tough guys last year and I think we have the same kind of mental fortitude this time around, so we're looking forward to getting on the field again."

KANSAS RB JON CORNISH

On keeping spirits up:

"It's very difficult, you know. How many times is this going to happen where we go into the fourth quarter with the lead. To me it's unacceptable. We're going to have to do the things necessary to prevent it from happening again."

On second half performance:

"I really felt like we lost our edge coming into the second half."
