Recap |  Box Score |  Notes |  Photo Gallery

Baylor Head Coach Art Briles

On bouncing back from previous Big 12 losses...
"The administration has been so supportive. Everyone has been so supportive. Our guys have never lost hope and they never lost focus and that says a lot about their character. After so many losses, it feels good to finally let them celebrate.  We have had some not so good moments, so it feels good to let them celebrate at a time like this. They have been working hard."

On Baylor's second half defense...
"We did a pretty good job stopping them [in the second half] after they had a pretty hot first half.  We knew we had to make some big plays in a hurry and some of our guys got up there and we finally made some good plays."

On Missouri's offense...
"I think we did a good job in changing up the rhythm of their offense.  Our players played great and they really played with a lot of heart. We did a good job containing them in the second half. We got our momentum going and momentum makes plays."

On Freshman QB Nick Florence's performance today...
"He makes good decisions, he is good on his feet, and he kind of rallies.  People rally around him and he has done a great job for us."

Baylor Senior LB Joe Pawelek

On Baylor's defense...
"We came out in the second half and were able to finally get some pressure on the quarterback. He never really got settled in that second half. They really struggled running the ball. Whenever you make a team one-dimensional, then we are able to pin our ears back and go after you."

On Baylor's first Big 12 Conference win...
"A win is a win.  Anytime you can get a win in the Big 12 Conference on the road, that is a huge, huge thing. We are going to get back at it tomorrow because we only have three more of these left."

On Quarterback Nick Florence's play...
"From the time that [Robert] Griffin went down, and then Blake went down, and people thought that we didn't have a third string quarterback, the season is over with. The offense was finally able to get in sync knowing Nick is our guy."

Baylor Freshman QB Nick Florence

On Baylor's passing game and breaking the school passing record...
"We had a great week of practice. The scout team gave us great looks, and we just went out there and made plays, one play at a time. I didn't even know I broke the record. A win is a win. Who cares what my stats are? We will do anything to get a win."

On being counted out coming into the game...
"We didn't have respect, nobody respects us. We go out there playing to win. It's not about gaining respect. We knew that we were a good team, we just wanted to get the 'W'."

Baylor Senior WR David Gettis

On Baylor's scout team...
"The unsung hero of this week is the scout team. Offense and defense, you won't see any of their stats in the newspaper, but throughout the week they did a great job of imitating Missouri's offense."

On Baylor's preparation...
"We work extremely hard at practice, so when we get out there on game day it is nothing new. We just go out there and execute. It comes down to fundamentals, start fast, play strong, finish strong."

Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel

Opening Statement...
"First of all Baylor deserved to win. They made plays and did a lot of good things so congratulations to them. That whole locker room [ Missouri] is very disappointed. One thing that is real important to do when you have problems in this business week to week, is that you fix them and you come out of them. As you can tell in the second half we continuously, regardless of what we do in practice, regardless of how much we're emphasizing, we're not playing good enough in the second half to win football games. I'm in charge of that and obviously what we're doing isn't working and we're going to continue to try to fix it."

On Baylor...
"They did about what we thought they would do. I'd like to tell you that they played a whole different offense or defense, but they didn't. I thought their quarterback played a great game. He connected in no time like he did on film this year. He made some plays and obviously some big plays. We gave him a whole lot of big plays on defense. They've only been scoring about 10 points a game in conference play."

On emotions in the second half...
"Being in this, there's a lot of things that go into it. A lot of it is you have to play well. We have to motivate our players. To sit there and blame it on that we're not playing hard and that we don't care about the second half, that's not true. You get in a slump. Usually I have taken a lot of great pride in fixing problems. If you don't fix them you're sitting right where we're at. But we'll talk about it as a staff, talk about how to get out of it. But we're certainly running out of time."

On Missouri's rushing game...
"They lined up generally with two linebackers on the inside almost the entire time, like the normally do. Generally on our offense when we see that, we throw the football. I also would suggest when you take all those sacks, it certainly took away from some of the [rush] yards. But I think we have to run the ball better."

Senior WR Danario Alexander

On his career day...
"It doesn't mean anything. We couldn't get the win. The career day was great, but we have to get the win."

On coming out flat in the second half...
"We're just not coming out and executing the offense like we can. We came out in the first half and everything was going pretty good, then we came out in the second half and we just couldn't get it together."

On the offense stalling...
"We just couldn't execute. You try to run your routes, but things just broke down on offense. If everything doesn't go right, it' not going to happen."

On the running game...
"If you can't run the ball, you can't open up the passing game. But as an offense you have to work together to get everything working correctly."

Missouri Sophomore DL Dominique Hamilton

On this loss...
"The other three [losses] were equally as big, but I came out on top of my game and I know a lot of other guys did well. We prepared the hardest we've ever prepared. This was a shock."

On the defense's intensity...
"I think we came out hyped and we came out on our toes. But we all just need to give a little more. When we get up, we can't just be satisfied. We have to keep attacking over and over again. We all have to play as a team and play together."

Missouri Senior WR Jared Perry

On preparing for the second half...
"Just get everybody focused. We got another half to play. Just think of the score as 0-0 and go out and play."

On Baylor adjusting in the second half...
"They did a little bit. They tried to show the blitz, we just have to pick up on it. It's a tough loss. We have a 24 hour rule, but after this game just flush it and go and get the next one."

Missouri Junior LB Andrew Gachkar

On allowing big plays...
"We had some big plays happen in the second half. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what the problem was but we just gave up big plays. I can't exactly say why."

On the pass defense...
"It was definitely frustrating. Especially when we harp on pass defense and staying on top of the ball. Obviously we gave that up a bunch of times too. It looked like the defensive line was getting a good rush at points but they were doing scramble drill and hitting someone behind us on third and long. Those are killers for the defense and things like that add up."

On three straight losses at home...
"It's getting hard going back in the locker room after three straight losses here. It's getting hard. But I'm going to keep working and all our teammates are going to keep working and were definitely going to put a better game up next week."
