Jan. 20, 2010

WACO, Texas - Baylor has added freshman Prince Kent to its football program, its sixth mid-year student-athlete enrolled in the spring semester and eligible to participate in spring drills, head coach Art Briles announced Wednesday.

Kent, a defensive back from Hargrave Military Academy, has signed a financial aid contract and is enrolled at Baylor.

Kent joins five other newcomers to the program this spring: two junior college mid-year signees from December (Robert T. Griffin from Navarro College and Issac Williams from El Camino College), a December high school graduate (Troy Baker from Connally High School in Waco) and two freshmen from Baylor's 2009 signing class (Bryce Petty of Midlothian High School and Tevin Reese of Temple High School).

"We're really proud that all of these student-athletes are on campus and ready to represent Baylor football," Briles said. "We're looking forward to a productive spring."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Kent is rated the No. 10 prep school recruit in the nation by Rivals.com. He attended Hargrave in the fall of 2009 after originally signing with Miami (Fla.) in February 2009. Coming out of Norcross (Ga.) High School in 2008 Kent was rated the No. 52 recruit nationally in the ESPU Top 150 and an Under Armour All-American.

Following his senior season at NHS, Kent was rated the No. 5 cornerback recruit by ESPN.com, the No. 21 athlete by Rivals.com and the No. 38 safety by Scout.com. He played both receiver and cornerback for a 10-2 Norcross squad and caught 32 passes for 632 yards and four touchdowns. He was selected Gwinnett All-County, first-team CSS Atlanta All-Chevy Football, Mobile Press Super Southeast 120, first-team All-Region 7AAAAA and played cornerback in the 2009 Under Armour All-Star Game.

Kent made 59 tackle and two sacks and added seven receptions for 74 yards as a junior in 2007 at Norcross.

The Bears are schedule to open spring drills the third week of March, following the University's spring break.
