WACO, Texas -- Baylor's six student-athletes at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine will be joined by a familiar face, as team physician Jon Ellis of Waco's Southwest Sports Medicine has also received a select invitation to the week-long evaluation event leading up to the NFL Draft.
Ellis is among a handful of medical staffers that the NFL invites annually from college programs that send high numbers of players to the professional ranks, in order to build relationships and to co-educate. Team physicians are given advice on the best preparation from the college level.
Joining Ellis at the event to be held Feb. 19-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, are six Baylor former standouts; Ahmad Dixon, Demetri Goodson, Jordan Najvar, Tevin Reese, Cyril Richardson and Lache Seastrunk. The 2014 NFL Scouting Combine is a chance for executives, coaches, player personnel staff and medical personnel from all 32 teams to evaluate the nation's top collegiate football players eligible for the upcoming draft. The six-day annual job interview will involve a series of tests, drills and interviews. The event will be broadcast live on NFL Network as well as on NFL.com.
The 2013 Big 12 champion Bears open the 2014 season Aug. 31 by hosting SMU in the debut of the state-of-the-art McLane Stadium on the Brazos River. Baylor will conduct spring drills Feb. 28 through April 5.
