WACO, Texas — Baylor football will open its 2016 spring drills on Thursday, Feb. 25 and conclude after 15 practices on Tuesday, April 5. The spring will be highlighted by the annual “Friday Night Lights” scrimmage and fan event at McLane Stadium on March 18.
Head coach Art Briles opens his ninth season in 2016 with a roster made up of 11 returning starters and 48 returning lettermen, and welcomes four scholarship newcomers during spring drills – mid-year junior college All-Americans B.J. Autry (OL from Coffeyville Community College) and Jeremy Faulk (DL from Garden City Community College), and two early enrollee high school All-Americans Tren’Davian Dickson (WR from Navasota [Texas] High School) and Zach Smith (QB from Grandview [Texas] High School).
Baylor finished the 2015 season ranked 13th nationally and as Russell Athletic Bowl champions (49-38 win over No. 10 North Carolina), its school-record sixth straight bowl appearance. Under Briles, BU has won a Big 12-best 50 games over the last five seasons, including two conference championships and three bowl wins.
The Bears recently signed a top-20 ranked recruiting class and are scheduled to conduct their 2016 Pro Timing Day on March 16, and the 2016 season opens Sept. 3 at McLane Stadium (vs. Northwestern State).
