WACO, Texas - Baylor football will open spring drills Tuesday, March 6, and conclude the 15-practice workouts Saturday, April 14, with a controlled scrimmage. The scrimmage and all spring workouts will take place at the Highers Complex fields located behind the Simpson Center on University Parks Drive.
Baylor spring practice dates are scheduled for March 6, 8, 19, 21, 23, 27, 29, 30, 31, April 3, 5, 10, 12, 13 and 14. Fan inquiries about attending workouts may be directed to the football office at 254-710-3058.
Head coach Art Briles opens his fifth season in 2012 with a squad made up of 54 returning lettermen from 2011 and welcomes two scholarship newcomers during spring drills (mid-year junior college signee Eddie Lackey of Riverside Community College and early high school graduate Lynx Hawthorne from Refugio High School).
The 2012 Bears roster includes 16 returning starters (six offensive, eight defensive and two specialists) from last year's record-setting Valero Alamo Bowl championship team that finished 10-3 and No. 12 in the final ESPN/USA Today coaches poll and 13th in the AP poll. The team set or tied 129 school records and earned its highest final ranking since 1986.
Baylor opens its 2012 season Sept.1 when it hosts SMU at Floyd Casey Stadium.
