WACO, Texas - Funeral services for former Baylor football player Kyle Woods, who passed away Thursday, April 2 in Mansfield, Texas, have been set for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas (2020 W. Wheatland Road).
Woods suffered a neck injury as a sophomore defensive back in 1979 that rendered him a quadriplegic. Following the injury, the Bears rallied around Woods, and he was an inspiration for the football program's 1979 Peach Bowl championship squad and 1980 Southwest Conference championship team.
Woods, who was the beneficiary over the years of a handicap-friendly home and van thanks to former teammates and coaches, suffered a heart attack March 22 and never regained consciousness.
