WACO, Texas - Fresh off a Texas Bowl appearance and a winning season, Baylor's 2011 home football game against Texas has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 3, so that it may be televised by ABC at either 2:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. (Central).
Baylor, which beat Texas, 30-22, last year in Austin, will be seeking back-to-back victories over the Longhorns for the first time since the 1991 and 1992 seasons when the teams meet for the 100th time next December. ABC has televised four previous BU-UT football games, the last of which was in 1996.
"Moving the Texas game will afford our program considerable national exposure on Championship Saturday while at the same time creating an open date for our team half-way through the season," Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw said.
The Bears' game against the Longhorns, originally slated to be played in Waco on Saturday, Oct. 22, will serve as the regular-season finale for both programs. It will mark the first time since 1995, the final year of the Southwest Conference, that Baylor will conclude the regular season against Texas, something it did every year from 1978 through 1995.
Kickoff times and television coverage for Baylor's non-conference games against TCU, Stephen F. Austin and Rice will be added at a later date, and it remains possible that additional date shifts may be requested by the Big 12's television partners, according to McCaw.
Baylor, 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the Big 12 Conference last season, opens the 2011 season with three straight home games for the first time since 2008 and only the second time in the Big 12's 16-year history. All-told, BU will play seven home games in 2011, including four of its first five at Floyd Casey Stadium, where it posted a 4-2 record a year ago.
