Waco, Texas - For the first time since 1997 and just the fifth time in program history, the Baylor football team's season-opener will be televised on ABC, as the Atlantic Coast Conference has announced that the Bears' Sept. 5 game at Wake Forest will be broadcast regionally on ABC with a mirror telecast on ESPN2. It marks the second consecutive year Baylor will open the year on national television against Wake Forest, as the teams met last year on Fox Sports Net with the Demon Deacons registering a 41-13 victory at Waco.
"Baylor football is on the rise and our television partners are excited about our program's bright future," said Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. "Having the Wake Forest game televised on both ABC and ESPN2 affords our program tremendous exposure and we are thrilled with this opportunity."
Baylor's last appearance on ABC came in 1997, when the Bears dropped a 45-14 decision to 13th-ranked Miami, Fla., in Waco before a regional television audience. All-told, the Wake Forest game mark Baylor's 24th ABC appearance.
Kickoff for Baylor's Sept. 19 home opener against Connecticut on Parents' Weekend has been set for 4 p.m., while its home contests against Northwestern State on Sept. 26 and Kent State on Oct. 3 will both kick off at 6 p.m.
Start times for Baylor's 2009 Big 12 schedule will be subject to a 12-day advance notice by the league television partners, as part of the conference television agreement with ABC, FSN, ESPN and Versus.
There is tremendous excitement and anticipation as Baylor enters year No. 2 of the Art Briles Era, as the Bears return some 20 starters from last year's team, including senior All-America linebacker Joe Pawelek, senior All-Big 12 safety Jordan Lake and Freshman All-America quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Season tickets for the Bears' six-game 2009 home slate are priced at $195.00 in non-premium areas and $275.00 in all premium chairback seat sections. Tickets in the premium seating area also require a Bear Foundation donation in addition to the ticket price.
In addition, Baylor also offers special Super Fan and Family 4 Pack ticket packages. The Super Fan tickets are priced at $145.00 each for seats in sections A and K in the West Stadium, while the Family 4 Pack is priced at $320.00 for four tickets in the North End Zone. Both plans are good for all six home games.
A convenient payment plan option, which affords fans the opportunity to purchase season tickets and spread the cost over four payments, is also available. Fans wishing to purchase season tickets may contact the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at 254.710.1000 or buy them online at baylorbears.com or in person at Floyd Casey Stadium.
Single-game tickets for Baylor's home football games will go on sale Aug. 10.
