Baylor Planning for Farewell Season in Floyd Casey Stadium

June 27, 2013

WACO, Texas -- The Baylor athletics department is making plans to send historic Floyd Casey Stadium out in style. "The Case," as it is affectionately known, will host the Bears football program for the 64th and final season in 2013, before making way for the brand-new riverfront Baylor Stadium located on campus along the Brazos River that will open in August 2014.

Baylor will utilize its seven home games in 2013 to celebrate the stadium, highlighted by player reunions surrounding each game (except Nov. 7 Thursday night game vs. Oklahoma) that will correspond to each of six decades in which the Bears have called Floyd Casey home.

"We look forward to celebrating Floyd Casey Stadium and the student-athletes and coaches who have made it special culminating with the finale against Texas," said Baylor Exec. Assoc A.D. Nick Joos. "Our goal is to make this a great celebration for everyone who has been involved with Baylor Football since The Case first opened."

An All-Floyd Casey Stadium team will be chosen by a selection committee, and fans will be asked to vote for Baylor "Legends" each decade that will be honored each game. Various video vignettes will air historic moments and personal memories about The Case throughout the season.

Throwback events to bring back former traditions are planned, such as Homecoming's "card sections" on Oct. 19 vs. Iowa State. But the most anticipated part of the planned events may be the wearing of Nike retro uniforms, inspired by the 1950 Baylor squad in order to honor the first team to play in Floyd Casey Stadium, for the season finale Dec. 7 vs. Texas.

Memorable moments will be published in gameday programs from legendary Dave Campbell, as well as current Baylor athletics historian Jerry Hill.

Additional activities and information will be released later this summer.

Baylor, champion of the 2012 Holiday Bowl, returns 13 starters from an 8-5 season in which its offense set or tied 37 school records and two NCAA marks. The Bears enter 2013 on a four-game winning streak and have won back-to-back bowl games for the first time in 25 years.

Season tickets for the 2013 Baylor football season are available starting at $95 each and can be purchased online at or by contacting the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at 254.710.1000.
