PHILADELPHIA – Baylor football players Antwan Goodley, Shock Linwood and Bryce Petty have all earned a spot on the 77-man watch list for the 78th annual Maxwell Award, The Maxwell Football Club announced Monday. The Maxwell Award is given annually to America's College Player of the Year.

Baylor is one of only six schools in the country and the only school in the Big 12 with at least three players on the list.

The Bears have now had at least one player on the award's watch list for the last four seasons as Robert Griffin III was honored in 2011, Terrance Williams made the 2012 list and Lache Seastrunk was recognized last season. It is the first time Baylor has ever had three players on the preseason list.

Goodley, a senior receiver, enjoyed a breakout season in 2013 with 71 catches for 1,339 yards and 13 touchdowns. He earned All-America honors from four outlets, was a consensus first-team All-Big 12 selection and a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards. Goodley enters 2014 having started 14 straight games and caught a pass in 17 consecutive contests. The Midland, Texas, product ranks fifth in yards per reception (17.07), seventh in yards per game (41.51), eighth in TDs (15) and 12th in receiving yards (1,536) on school career lists heading into 2014.

Linwood, a sophomore running back, is the leading returning rusher in the Big 12 after racking up a BU freshman-record 881 yards on 128 with eight TDs. The speedster from Linden, Texas, was named a Freshman All-America by four outlets and the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year by the San Antonio Express-News. He played in 12 of 13 games, while starting two in 2013. Linwood averaged 6.9 yards per carry, which ranked third best for single season at Baylor. Linwood is listed as the starting running back on the post-spring depth chart.

Petty, a senior quarterback, was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award in his first season as a starter in 2013. He was named All-America by Athlon and Sporting News, a consensus Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, while setting 17 school records in 2013 season, including nine single-season marks. Petty was the national leader in yards-per-completion (16.80) and second nationally in passing efficiency (174.29) and points responsible for per-game (21.2). The Midlothian, Texas, native led the Big 12 in passing yards (4,200, fourth nationally), total offense (339.2 yards/game, eighth nationally), passing touchdowns (32, 11th nationally), and rushing touchdowns (14, 19th nationally). He complete 250-of-403 passes (62.0 percent) and ran for 209 yards and 14 TDs on 94 rushes.

The trio of Bears makes of one third of the Big 12 Conference’s nine total players on the list. The other schools to have at least three watch list players include Alabama (4), Arizona State (3), Florida State (3), Oregon (3) and USC (3).

The Maxwell Award has been given annually since 1937, and is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Nov. 3, while three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 24. The winners of the 2014 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 11. The formal presentations of the awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Revel Casino Hotel Atlantic City on March 6, 2015.
