IRVING, Texas - Baylor's Lache Seastrunk has been named Big 12 Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and Bryce Hager and Cyril Richardson joined him in being named to the preseason All-Big 12 Football Team, as chosen by media representatives who cover the conference and announced on Wednesday.
Baylor is joined by Kansas State, Texas Tech and TCU as the only teams with multiple players on the preseason All-Big 12 offense. The Bears' three total selections were their most since placing four on the 2009 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
Seastrunk, a junior running back from Temple, Texas, burst on the national scene over the final six games of 2012 when he averaged 138.5 yards during that span. He totaled 1,012 yards and seven touchdowns for the season while earning Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year and Holiday Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player honors. The junior enters 2013 on a four-game streak of 100-yard rushing games.
Richardson is one of two players in the conference who repeated as a preseason All-Big 12 selection after also earning postseason recognition on the All-Big 12 first team a season ago. The senior from Fort Worth, Texas, was the 2012 Big 12 Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and earned a spot on the AP All-American second team.
Hager, a junior linebacker from Austin, Texas, led the Big 12 in tackles a season ago, averaging 9.5 per game. He started 10 of 13 games at middle linebacker, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors from the league's coaches. Hager is one of only four non-seniors on the preseason All-Big 12 defensive team.
The media Preseason Big 12 Poll will be released on Thursday, followed by the annual Big 12 Football Media Days to be conducted in Dallas on Monday and Tuesday. Baylor will participate in Tuesday's portion of media days, along with Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia.
Baylor opens its final season at Floyd Casey Stadium against Wofford on Aug. 31. The Bears will move into their new home, the beautiful Baylor Stadium on the banks of the Brazos River, in 2014. Tickets can be purchased by visiting BaylorBears.com/tickets, and single-game tickets for all home games except the Dec. 7 finale against Texas go on sale Aug. 7. Texas single-game tickets will go on sale to current season ticket holders and Bear Foundation members on Sept. 10 through a unique promo code provided by the Baylor Network. Any remaining tickets after those sales will be made available to the general public on Sept. 24.
