Football Set To Open 2013 Fall Camp Monday

Aug. 2, 2013

WACO, Texas - Baylor head football coach Art Briles opens his 2013 fall camp with a practice at 2:50 p.m. Monday at the Highers Complex Fields.

In his sixth season in Waco, Briles and staff will welcome 105 student-athletes who report to camp on Sunday.

Following the three-week camp, Baylor opens the 2013 season and the final one at historic Floyd Casey Stadium with a game against Wofford at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 31.

The Bears return 15 starters - six on offense, seven on defense and two on special teams - and a total of 47 lettermen from a squad that went 8-5 and won the Holiday Bowl.

Including Monday, Baylor is slated to have 14 practices over the next three weeks, before moving into its game-week preparations. The team's annual Meet The Bears day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10. The team will scrimmage at 11:45 a.m. followed by an autograph session with fans at 1 p.m.

BU was picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 in a vote of the conference's media and is currently receiving votes in the preseason USA Today Coaches' Poll. Individually, Baylor placed three players onto the preseason All-Big 12 Football Team with junior RB Lache Seastrunk earning Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Seastrunk is also a candidate for the Maxwell, the Doak Walker and the Walter Camp awards. He is joined by senior OG Cyril Richardson and junior LB Bryce Hager on the All-Big 12 team.

Richardson was also recognized on the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award preseason watch lists, while Hager, who led the Big 12 in tackles last season, is a candidate for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, the Bednarik Award, the Nagurski Trophy, the Butkus Award and the Lombardi Award.

Other Bears to be recognized in the preseason include senior S Ahmad Dixon, who is a Thorpe Award candidate and on the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list, senior RB Glasco Martin, who is a Doak Walker Award candidate, senior TE Jordan Najvar, who is on the Mackey Award watch list and senior WR Tevin Reese, who is a Biletnikoff Award nominee.

Monday's practice is open to the public. For future practice information, contact the football office at 254-710-3058.
