Aug 21, 2013

TYLER, Texas - Baylor junior running back Lache Seastrunk was one of 35 players on the watch list for the first annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, the Tyler Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler announced on Wednesday.

Seastrunk is one of nine Big 12 players on the list and one of 13 running backs featured.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I. In addition, the winner must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year college.

Going into the 2013 season, Seastrunk has already been named the Big 12 Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and a Walter Camp Award "player to watch". He has also earned a spot on the Doak Walker Award and Maxwell Award watch lists.

In his first season at Baylor in 2012, Seastrunk led the BU rushing attack with 1,012 yards on 131 carries. The Temple, Texas-native really shined in the latter part of the season, as he racked up 831 yards and six of his seven TDs for the season over the final six games.

He earned Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors from the league's coaches and was named the offensive MVP in Baylor's Holiday Bowl win over No. 17 UCLA. In that contest, Seastrunk posted 138 rushing yards on 16 attempts, including a 43-yard TD scamper.

Seastrunk burst onto the scene in early November as he helped the Bears upset No. 1 Kansas State by tallying a season-high 185 yards on 19 carries with a season-long 80-yard touchdown run.

For the season, Seastrunk set three school records, including the single-season mark of 7.7 yards-per-rush. He enters the 2013 season having recorded 100 yards or more in four straight contests.

The Tyler Rose Watch List will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to four finalists in December.

BU will begin the 2013 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 31 by facing Wofford at 6:30 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium. It will be Baylor's final season at the Case, before moving into the $260-million state-of-the-art Baylor Stadium in 2014.
