WACO, Texas -
In the first season at McLane Stadium, Baylor football radio broadcasts will be available to more fans than ever in the Lone Star state on the Baylor IMG Sports Network and nationally on Sirius Satellite Radio, school officials announced Tuesday.
The Bears open their 2014 season Sunday at 6:30 p.m. against SMU in Waco.
"Anticipation for the 2014 Baylor football season is off the charts, and one of the ways that demonstrates that is in the expanded Baylor-IMG radio network," said Baylor Executive Associate A.D./External Affairs Nick Joos. "This is an outstanding line-up of affiliates and we appreciate their support in bringing our games to our fans throughout the state."
Waco's ESPN Radio KRZI 1660AM again returns as the flagship station for all Baylor Athletics broadcasts. In total, Baylor football will be broadcast on 19 Texas radio stations in 2014, up from 17 in 2013 and 12 in 2012.
All of the network's stations in Texas' three largest markets will remain unchanged for the upcoming season. Houston-area listeners can catch the games on Newstalk 1070 AM, KNTH. In Dallas, Newstalk 660 AM, KSKY, will broadcast the games, while San Antonio-area fans can tune in for games on "The Word in South Texas" 630 AM, KSLR, while KLUP, 930 AM will also carry the game in the Alamo City market.
In addition to those stations, play-by-play of the 2014 Bears will also air in Abilene (KMWX, 92.5FM), Amarillo (KZRK, 107.9FM), Austin (KLGO, 1490AM), Big Spring (KBYG, 1400AM), Cameron (KTON, 1330AM), Carthage/Tyler (KXPI, 100.7FM), Cleburne (KCLE, 1460AM), Fredericksburg (KNAF, 910AM), Lubbock (KFYO-AM & KKAN-AM, 790 /1340), Lufkin (KYBI, 100.1FM), Ranger (K300BD, 107.9 FM), Stephenville (KWBY, 98.5FM) and Temple (K265DV, 100.9FM).
Games will also be available on the TuneIn Radio app.
The "Voice of the Bears," John Morris, will handle the play-by-play duties for the Baylor IMG team, which will mark his 28th year broadcasting Baylor football and 20th as the signature voice of Baylor Athletics. Former Baylor standout J.J. Joe will provide color for the broadcast for a 11th season. Sideline reporting duties will be handled by Baylor Athletic Hall of Famer Ricky Thompson, who played seven years with the NFL's Washington Redskins and is back for his 15th season along the sidelines. Other members of the 2014 Baylor football radio broadcast crew include engineer Bob Baker and Hillcrest-IMG Network studio host Bradford Hines.
Broadcasts on 1660AM and 1460AM begin two hours prior to kickoff with the Baylor Alumni Network Tailgate Show, while the other network affiliates are scheduled to begin pregame coverage 30 minutes prior to kickoff with the Baylor Countdown to Kickoff.
Following the game, the two aforementioned stations will carry two hours of postgame coverage, including the First Central Credit Union Post Game Show and the Fan Forum Post Game Show with hosts Derek Smith and Jay Lockett. The other stations will carry the 30-minute First Central Credit Union Post Game Show.
