RG3 Named Davey O'Brien QB of Week

RG3 set a school record with his fifth career 300-yard passing game.

FORT WORTH, Texas –Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III added another national award on Wednesday when he was named the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week.

After leading the Bears to a 50-48 upset of No. 14 TCU, RG3 has been named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week and National Offensive Player of the Week by and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Griffin III also earned Player of the Week honors from and is one of four finalists for both the Capital One Cup Impact Performance of the Week and AT&T All-America Player of the Week.

RG3 is one of 38 candidates on the preseason watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award. Semifinalists will be announced Oct. 24, and fans can cast their ballots by visiting The fan vote counts for five percent during each round of the voting process. Griffin III was one of 10 semifinalists for the award a season ago.

Griffin III completed 21 of 27 passes for 359 yards, rushed 10 times for 38 yards and also caught a 15-yard pass on third-and-10 to extend the game-winning drive.

RG3 threw a career-high five touchdowns to lead the Bears to their first win over a top-15 opponent since knocking off 12th-ranked Colorado on Sept. 14, 1991. Baylor’s 50 points scored were its most ever against a ranked opponent and the most allowed by the TCU defense since 2005.

Griffin III’s touchdown passes went for 35, 28, 14, 64 and 42 yards, respectively. He also completed passes for 21 and 36 yards, giving him the same number of completions of 20 or more yards (six) as incomplete passes. RG3 accounted for 50 of the Bears’ 60 yards on the drive that ended with Aaron Jones’ 37-yard game-winning field goal.

RG3 engineered seven scoring drives that used less than three minutes and took eight or fewer plays. The Bears’ final drive of the day covered 60 yards on 11 plays in three minutes and 23 seconds and ended with the Bears taking a 50-48 lead on Jones’ field goal with 1:04 remaining in the game.

One day after Baylor’s upset win, Griffin III made an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay and did interviews with ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN Radio.
