Seastrunk Garners Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week Honors

Oct. 7, 2013

IRVING, Texas - Following Baylor football's 73-42 win over West Virginia, junior running back Lache Seastrunk has been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, the league's office announced on Monday.

On Saturday, Seastrunk racked up 172 rushing yards on 15 carries in only one half of action. The Temple, Texas, native did not play in the second half, after posting 11.5 yards per carry to help BU build a 56-14 halftime lead over the Mountaineers.

In that first half, Seastrunk had touchdown runs of 80 and 19 yards. The 80-yarder tied for the longest of Seastrunk's career and the fourth-longest rush in program history.

His 172 rushing yards were the 15th-most in program history and he now owns three of the top-15 single-game rushing totals at Baylor. It was Seastrunk's ninth-career 100-yard rushing game and his eighth-consecutive - the nation's longest active streak.

On the season, Seastrunk leads the Big 12 and is second nationally with 147.2 yards per game on the ground. He has 53 attempts for 589 yards and eight touchdowns in four games.

Seastrunk is BU's first offensive Big 12 weekly award winner of the season. He was also Baylor's last Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honoree, earning the title on Dec. 12, 2012. The Bears have now had at least one Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honoree in each of the last seven seasons. In total, Baylor has had seven offensive players honored a combined 12 times since 2002.

On Sunday, Athlon Sports named BU quarterback Bryce Petty its Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. It is the second time this season that the Midlothian, Texas, product has been recognized. The junior signal caller was responsible for 370 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in the win over WVU. He threw for two scores, while completing 17 of 25 passes for 347 yards.

BU is off to a 4-0 start to the season for the first time since 1991 and is ranked No. 15 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Baylor will travel to Manhattan, Kan. to take on Kansas State in its first road game of the year on Saturday. That game will be televised by FOX at 2:30 p.m.
